My profile :
SSC - 72.33%
HSC - 72.13%
Bachelor's in Managament Studies -71%
Work Experience - 2.5/3 years
Toefl (2008) - 106/120 - to show aptitude
IELTS - appearing in September 2014

Main Aim : Permanent Residency in Canada

My strategy : instead of SPP colleges from Ontario, I intend to opt for the 2 year PBDM in Marketing from TRU (Thompson Rivers University), work in Calgary / Edmonton during Co-op in both years to create network and gain experience. On completion of course permanently shift to Calgary, work for a year on PGWPP and apply for PR from Calgary (Alberta PNP) under Canadian Experience Class.

My concerns :
1) Is this strategy okay? What's your take on this?
2) how is TRU in comparison to George Brown or Sheridan? How will the employers perceive my resume?
3) TRU is in kamloop which seems to be a very small town. Any idea on the part time jobs (20 hrs per week) during my course?

Thanks!

Hi Baljit,
I was planning to apply at Northern Lights but then I did not really get positive reviews about that college.
Do you have any reviews on TRU? I really need some feedback on the reputation of this university!

I think it is good strategy but you need to check it is easy to find a marketing job in Calgary.
Well, they say Calgary is one of the best cities in Canada and jobs are comparatively easier than in Toronto or in Vancouver!

Yes, Northern Lights is very affordable but TRU is as much as George Brown. 7000 CAD. Per year which is okay with me! Jobs during college will be a problem but the fact that it's a PGDM from a university will have some more weightage!?

I am not that much experienced on this forum but as far as universities are concerned employers always gave much weightage to uni passouts as compared to colg guys. And TRU is a good university ... I have read so many posts abt people who are going to TRU.Just write TRU or thompson rivers and u will get so many posts by people abt TRU.I think this would be really helpful for u.

Thank you Baljit :)
I've already read many articles on TRU but they aren't satisfactory! The problem is it is in Kamloops, which is literally a small town unlike Toronto city or Vancouver or even Calgary! But the best part of the university is that it is located 3.5 hours from Vancouver, 7 hours from Calgary and 9 hours from Edmonton, so I can start building a network much prior.
Passing out from Toronto and then moving 3500 kms to Calgary seems crazy! It's like starting from zero, all over again!

Exactly.I m having the same reason for not opting toronto coz PR norms aren't that easy as compared to other provinces .In this way it doesn't make a sense to study at a place from where u would have to shift definitely on completion of ir studies coz its a fact that in a span of two years a person can develop his professional contacts very well.

====> I think 7000 CAD is for a semester, can you please confirm on this , even I am same boat. when I checked TRU website its says apprx 7000 CAD for a Semester but not for a year for PG courses. Can you please clarify this, which PG course is 7000 CAD per semester. Thanks in advance...

As I know Calgary booming economy for engineering and technical job for OIL & Gas industry, I am not sure about marketing job. I read a few post in the forum below, they discuss about engineering & technical job, you can check the same. My sister family is there, I want to study at Calgary college but I already have Bachelor, so Visa rejection is quite high.

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/

Therefore, My strategy is as below:

Apply PG course 2 years (business management) in Toronto, Vancouver
Get admission PG course & get visa
Apply college in Calgary & get admission
Change to Calgary college after landing Canada
Find a job after graduating from College
Apply PR via CEC route

What do you think is it possible?

Sorry! My bad, it's about 15,800 CAD per year. Yet, almost same as George brown!
Plus you can always score well and apply for scholarships in the second semester.

I've always felt and correct me if I'm wrong, any business needs marketing so marketing jobs have to exist everywhere!

Your plan sounds good! Just that see how viable it is to shift from Toronto to Calgary once you are there. If I were you ii'd prefer BC over Toronto for this plan. India to Toronto and then Toronto to Calgary, it's like a lot of mess! From anywhere in BC, Calgary is barely 7/10 hours by bus or train.
