Hi LegalFalcon, I received my Pr card today . However I did not receive in mail or in portal eCOPR till date and I have sent mail to PR portal team and I have not got any response yet. What are my options to get eCOPR. eCOPR is asked in few places like passport extension etc. Need your advise. Thanks in advance

Hi @legalfalcon - I am currently in the U.K. and my COPR is expiring by next week. I had submitted a webform to London office explaining that I am unable to travel by next week to Canada for permanent settlement. Travel restrictions were lifted only in June end and because of uncertainty I ended up getting a new job and signed rental lease for an year in the U.K. Moving immediately will be a big financial loss and a career gap. So I requested them for extension but I am yet to hear from them.

Also, IRCC states that people with valid COPR should only travel if they want to permanently settle in Canada and not for temporary purposes even if it is for a short duration.

I am confused if I should travel before COPR expiry or if I should wait for IRCC to reply even if by the time they reply my documents would have expired. The risk with travelling to Canada just to validate COPR and returning to the U.K. is that the border agent might ask me plan or proof that I will stay in Canada 'permanently' and I think lying to the border agent would not be the right thing to do.

Do you have any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance,
Tharun

For all practical purposes, PR card is your proof of PR status in Canada and once you have it, you do not need a COPR. It is strange that you never received a COPR.

You can follow up with IRCC on it, but I won't be too concerned since you have received your COPR and it has the date on which you became a PR.

Thanks for your reply. But I want to apply for my daughter’s passport renewal and one of the checklist is landing document and it is mandatory if PR. That is why I asked . I raised webform asking for eCoPR. Is there anything I can do

Hi @legalfalcon, I have some quick questions, if you can help me out it would be appreciated.

Can someone travel from the US to Canada by land using only the eCOPR and ID? As long as you get to the border (bus, private vehicle, walking) you wouldn’t be refused entry? Is there any risk doing this? Thank you!

PR card is a landing document since it lists the landing date on the PR card.

YEs, you can enter Canada only with a COPR and passport. However, you cannot take any commercial vehicle such as a bus, plane etc. You can drive in your private car or walk across.

There is no risk, you will be asked to report to the secondary office and after verification of your PR status, you will be allowed to enter.

Legally, IRCC can't stop you from entering Canada even if it is for a short duration as long as you comply with the health guidelines.

Alternatively, you can wait to hear back from IRCC and get new documents, which can take anywhere from 4-10 weeks or longer since your application be be reopened, a final review will be done to ensure that your documents are valid and only then new documents will be issued.

Hi @legalfalcon ,
First of all a big hearty thank you for your kind and continuing support and guidance throughout the PR journey. Your help enabled many of us to reach this stage.
I have few queries post RFV email.
After I have received Ready for Visa (RFV) email from IRCC, I also got email for IRCC Permanent Residence Confirmation Portal. As mentioned in the portal email, I have already replied that I am not in Canada.
My COR is India and I have never entered Canada.
I gather I need to submit my Passport and photographs to nearest VAC for COPR stamping , as per instructions in the RFV email. For that I have already raised VFS webform and received auto response acknowledgement from VFS.

My query is :
1) whether these portal emails are sent to me by default ( I received one reminder email too for the Portal)?
2) Do I need to do anything more about the portal , i.e. DO I need to access the portal and enter the details? (I have never entered Canada)
3) As per RFV email, I raised VFS webform for Passport pick-up. VFS allows only one webform per passport. I have two family members (including me), so I raised two webforms and received acknowledgements for both. Do I need to prepare two Package , or a single package containing two sets of requisite docs ?
Thanks

The portal clearly states:

What is the Permanent Residence Portal?
This portal will help you to apply for permanent residence. Once you are approved, provided that you are in Canada at the time, you will also be invited by IRCC to use the portal to become a permanent resident.

Hi @legalfalcon ,

My query is regarding CEC experience for Express entry.

I am working with Canadian employer (Export House) on Canadian work permit and had been working full time in Canada since June 2021 ( 40 hours weekly and paying income tax) . Now company is sending me for assignment/onsite to one of their vendor's country based in Europe for 3 months (while being on Canadian employer payroll) .

My query is that can claim/mention duration I spend outside Canada (in Europe) fell under CEC category as per Canadian immigration Laws and then while creating express entry profile? Or duration worked outside canada would be excluded while calculating Canadian experience?
