that's kind of weird. most probably since she still has a valid visa, the first time she sent her passport in, they thought they didnt need to stamp a new visa. hopefully, it's for visa stamping now. yey! :)

Re:EU citizen presently resides in ASIA wishes to work in Canada

Good day! I am an EU citizen, presently residing in Asia..I worked for 12 years in a european embassy.. I wish to go to Canada as a tourist and eventually find a job to stay for good. Is it possible to apply for a work visa while I am in Canada already?..will it be easier for my future employer to work on my visa while I am staying in Canada? or do I really have to secure a work visa first from my point of origin before entering Canada?..If so, please help me with enough information regarding this..Thank you very much. .

Another update. Our prospective nanny got her approval letter today, along with her passport including a new visa for a two-year period. It took pretty much exactly 2 months from the date they would have received her original application.

The letter is very short. It says nothing about the LCP or the basis upon which she has been "approved". It was very important to all of us that she be officially IN the LCP program, so I sure hope that's what we've accomplished here! The letter just says her "application to study or work in Canada has been approved" and she "may now travel to Canada" (which is silly, considering they know perfectly well she's already in Canada and has been here for 4 years). The letter is entirely written as though she isn't in Canada yet, and says "Please show this letter to the Canada Border Services Officer upon arrival in Canada", and that the officer will "issue" her "permit".

So there is no work permit. I had been warned this would happen, including by all you experts on this Board. So it seems clear she must go to a border crossing and "flagpole" as I've been told. I will do a separate post to ask these questions, but will ask here as well - what would be the best border crossing option for her, if she lives and works in Edmonton Alberta (she doesn't drive)? Is it possible to "flagpole" at an airport - we have a large international airport, can she just go there to border services? What should she bring with her to the border in terms of paperwork, etc.? Should I provide her with a letter of explanation or anything else to assist her at the border? If she "flagpoles" successfully, does this mean her current work permit with her current employer is automatically cancelled (ie. if she flagpoles must she leave her current job at that time and immediately start with us, or could she "flagpole", come home to Edmonton, provide notice to her employer, work a couple more weeks for him and then come to us?) Is there any reason I should go with her to the border, or is this definitely something she can do herself (I would rather not travel to the border with her, as we don't live near the border and I have a busy full-time job and a crazy toddler at home).

Many thanks for everyone's help to date!

wow! that's good news! :D i dont think she could go to any airports since she needs to exit Canada. i heard that the nearest is in Coutts. You dont necessarily have to be with her when she flagpoles. She can do it herself. Good luck and I hope I would get a positive response from the visa office regarding my application as well! :) God bless

Well, a friend of hers suddenly offered to drive her the 7 hours to the Coutts/Sweetgrass border with Montana, which is the big Alberta border crossing to the U.S. She took a ton of paperwork (including her approval letter from Buffalo, LMO, employment contract, copy of her application package), identification, etc. and an explanatory letter from me (confirming we have been waiting to hire her, and we understand she needs to "flagpole" to obtain her work permit and inviting the border officials to call me at anytime if they have concerns or questions). I am so nervous for her! She left at 4am, so I think they might just be reaching the border sometime soon.

Keep your fingers crossed - after 4 long years in Canada as a TFW, she may finally be in the LCP and can start working towards her permanent residence!

;D

She got her work permit!! It was a looong day. Took 12 hours to drive there and get it, so they are staying overnight on the road. They took her old work permit, which stressed her out a bit, since she is not giving notice to her current employer for another 3 weeks, and then she will give him 2 weeks notice (which means she will be working 5 weeks without proper work permits). But other than that we are happy, and I think she is very relieved.

So it took 7 whole months to transfer her from a regular TFW into the LCP. What a process! So happy we are done. Thanks to all for your thoughtful advice on this board.

Hi first ask your employer to advertised and apply for LMO as live in caregiver. Apply any visa office outside Canada.
