Hello,
I am looking for an insurance proof (IMM5533). My bank told me I cannot add my husband as a beneficiary because he does not have a Social Insurance Number (SIN).
I don't have benefits in my work so I can't add him as a beneficiary there also.
Which insurance documents did you use in your case please?

You should be able to add him as your beneficiary to your TFSA, I did it in 2019 when my spouse wasn't in Canada yet. The bank said to just leave the SIN blank so unless something has changed you should be able to. Getting an ITN might satisfy their requirement in lieu of the SIN. Call or go in and speak to the manager.

An ITN is a 9-digit number issued to non-resident individuals who need an identification number. The ITN is for people who are not eligible for a social insurance number (SIN) and are considered a non-resident for tax purposes. If you are eligible for a SIN , you must apply for a SIN.
