Congrats on the ITA and good luck on your application! We moved from the Midwest to Toronto a few months ago and absolutely love it here so far. If I may make a shameless plug, we have another thread here of US applicants here and a facebook group as well - PM me if you'd like to join the latter!

Hello all,

This forum and corresponding threads have been a huge help to me, so figured I would share our journey in the hopes it does the same, regardless of how it turns out. Will post updates throughout.

My wife and I are immigrating under Express Entry from Dallas, TX. We have no legal counsel, just going off of CIC website and help from the forums. I am the primary applicant, CRS score was 443
  • IELTS taken - March 3 2018
  • WES education verification submitted- March 6 2018
  • IELTS results received- March 15 2018
  • WES results received- May 4 2018
*our uni was slow getting our transcripts to them. I recommend overnighting your sealed official transcripts via FedEx or UPS. Would’ve saved us a month probably.
  • Created Express Entry profile- May 4 2018
  • Applied for ONLINE FBI Identity History Report (Police certificate)-May 4 2018
  • Overnighted fingerprint card to FBI- May 7 2018
  • Received FBI Identity History Report- May 8 2018
*I was super worried from reading that the police certificate could take weeks to months. The online version is relatively new and took only a day after getting prints. Relax!
  • Selected in draw and extended ITA- May 9 2018
  • Currently gathering employment reference letters, medical exam, and proof of funds. Expected application submitted date: June 22 2018
I’ll update as we go, and happy to answer any questions if anyone has any.
Also from Dallas, did you do your FP through channeler since you are citizen? it should take only 2-3 days for citizen.

since we are not citizen, we did ours over edo and it took about 10 days after submitting PF card by mail.

The somewhat typical reasons that I imagine a lot of Americans post. I actually grew up playing hockey and would travel into and around Canada, just loved it from a younger age. Its hard to explain, but my wife and I just have always felt like we belong in Canada during our visits. Ranging from our pale complexions that melt in Texas haha, to our personalities and personal interests. As we are establishing our careers and only getting older, we want to do it now.
Hey where you are going to settle? anything in mind? I want to do either Manitoba(Winnipeg is only 8 hours from Saint Paul) or PEI. I lived in Minnesota for over 10 years absolutely loved it and traveled to Winnipeg for several times.

Congrats. I am also in the same boat like you.
I got ITA on May 9, 2018 Draw, received WES credentials evaluation and FBI clearance certificate, Medical Exam - Scheduled coming Monday.
Proof of Fund : I have Chase account, can I show my POF in US dollars or do I need to ask them to give it in CAD, I do have money in employment retirement fund and in 403b, can I show those as POF along with chase statement.

Employment verification letter: I have worked for 4 companies in past 10 years A(current) B(previous) C D. I received letter from A and B, employer C not responding to my email and D out of business. How to prove my employment for C and D ( I do have employment offer letter and some pay stubs ). In other forum they mentioned to write a Letter of Explanation, if anyone can provide me a sample it will be really helpful.

Thanks a lot!! and All the Best to others!!

Hi Rohit,

Your ILETS attempt- first and second what difference did it make as far as preparation, Also did you take BC or IDP?
475 is impressive score way beyond cut off. can you share your profile if you want too. Do you have any canadian experience or study?
I concentrated more on Listening & Writing modules. It was BC. I did my Masters in US.

I just did my medical yesterday-- as far as I'm aware, went off without a hitch. Now I'm frustratingly awaiting a letter from my bank that I asked for 3 weeks ago as the final piece of my application. What's the status for you guys?

I’ll update as we go, and happy to answer any questions if anyone has any.
UPDATE:
  • Completed medical exam- June 4
* Was super easy. Took a blood sample, peed in a cup, measured height/weight, vitals, all that good stuff. Took chest X-ray. Left with a printed confirmation form that I submitted in my app.
  • Wife completed her medical- June 19
  • Obtained proof of funds letter from my bank- Jun 22
*Much easier than I expected. My bank, Wells Fargo, had a template that prints on letterhead. It includes the banker that helped you’s contact info and I asked them to stamp it as well. They couldn’t put average monthly balances on the letter, so I included past six months of statements along with pay stubs to show it wasn’t a one time influx of cash or gift. I also printed out the USD-CAD exchange rate for that day just because. At the time of submission, we had just over $15,000 USD in accounts (about $20,000 CAD at the time, well over the required $15,400 for the two of us)
  • Took Digital Photos- Jun 23
*Brought our own digital camera to CVS Pharmacy and used their station. Those Kodak print machines have a Canadian passport option which is same measurements as PR Card requirements. Will give you an idea of how you need to crop your original copy of photo.
  • SUBMITTED APPLICATION- JUN 23
It’s all over but the waiting! Cost was roughly $1600 USD to submit (paid up front for all fees instead of waiting until end). I’ll keep posting as updates come in with our status. The general feeling now is excitement and relief that it’s done.

Good to hear, and congratulations on submitting! The wait is probably the hardest part, honestly. You can come wait with us over in the June AOR thread if you feel like chatting. :)
