My partner is from Texas and our plan is for him to come live with me in Montréal QC. I have very specific questions so I’ll get right to it...

1. Is there an income requirement for qc for me to sponsor him (once we are married)?
2. He has a daughter of 19 who won’t be accompanying him. She is single, independent, clean record, and not currently in school. Does this “complicate” our application and if so, in which ways?

Thanks! I really just need confirmation/clarification of things from actual humans and not just what I read off government websites. Often those bring up more questions than they answer!

No income requirement to sponsor but you must be able to demonstrate how you will support that individual, whether that be a job, savings, whatever.

I suppose having a dependent complicates things slightly just in that she will need to complete a medical even though she is non accompanying and you'd fill out some of the paperwork slightly differently than if you had no dependents, but otherwise no.

I did not have any dependents on my application so other members let me know if I am missing anything.

1 - No income requirement. Just need to show basic income so visa officer won't suspect you'll have trouble supporting yourselves
2 - It's fine, she can be listed as a non-accompanying dependent. She is required though to do a full medical exam.

Note he can't "move" or "live" in Canada, until he PR app is approved. Until then he can just visit, so make sure when entering Canada he does so as just a visitor (i.e. show ties to USA, have return ticket, luggage typical of visitor, etc).

You will need to decide if you want to do an INLAND or OUTLAND app.

From what I read on the Québec immigration website, there is a minimum income requirement, and if the applicant has a child of under 22 years of age they are considered dependent (!!!) and therefore the sponsor must meet a specific income requirement, even if the “dependent” won’t be accompanying.

The minimum income requirement does not apply to spousal sponsorship applications. There is no minimum requirement for these applications.

Thank you! Yes I’m very aware of how important it is to do things the correct way. I make him print out his pay stubs and bring proof that he’s in school presently and stuff. I successfully sponsored my ex husband about 11 years ago with an Outland and I was really proud of myself! Our relationship broke down and he moved back to the USA permanently not even a year after landing. I actually have questions regarding this too, so I’ll probably make a new thread about it also.

The only time a minimum income requirement comes into play for spousal apps is if there are dependents who have their own dependents (so if you were trying to sponsor a child AND grandchild).

There are different paths to permanent residency. The income requirement is not required for spousal sponsorships (unless as explained above a dependent has a dependent). The income requirement is required for the other "economic" paths to PR.

So, I'm a bit confused.. because looking at the application for Quebec, it looks like there is a minimum requirement for them? Am I interpreting the app wrong?

These are generic forms used for many different types of apps.
