Hello. I'm looking to get some solid advice regarding this.

First some information:
-I'm currently in Montreal.
-On a 36 month temporary worker visa for a company in Montreal.
-Was on a 12-month SWAP visa in Vancouver last year.
-The title of my car is in my father's name.
-My insurance agent has verified that I am covered in Canada and sent me one-month international insurance slips while in Vancouver.
-The car is 11 years old and won't have a problem passing inspection.
-I crossed the boarder this weekend. The US guard was on my case about exporting, Canadian guard said nothing.
-I crossed multiple times while in Vancouver and never heard a word about importing (Possibly due to the SWAP visa).
-I still have a permanent address in the States.

What I need to know:
I'm reading a lot of different and confusing information. The RIV says I'm except from importing since I'm on a 36-month visa. Does this mean I don't have to pay import taxes, but I still have to register the car in Quebec (plates, insurance, license)?

If so, is there any way I can hold onto my American insurance and license?
