Hi,

I plan to go to Canada for up to 6 months as a visitor (without a visa from a country whose citizens don't need one if they're visiting for less than 6 months). Can I continue working for my employer (company from my home country without any connection to Canada) remotely without a work permit? Do I need any kind of permit or is it OK if I just show up?

Thanks.

In my opinion, I would say that based on the Spirit of the rules, no you would not need a work permit. If you look at the wording of a business vistor who would not need a work visa below..

"A business visitor is someone who comes to Canada to engage in international business activities without directly entering the Canadian labour market. Find out more information on entering Canada as a business visitor.

As a visitor who is telecommuting, you are similiarly not entering (affecting) the Canandian Labour market. You are not being paid by a Canadian Company...you are not taking away a job from a Canadian Citizen.
