Hi French Speakers and Learners,

I do not speak French at all, but aiming to get the following scores within 6-8 months...Let's get real and be real?

Speaking 349-370 out of maximum of 393-450
Listening 249-279 out of maximum of 316-360
Reading 207-232 out of maximum of 263-300
Writing 310-348 out of maximum of 393-450

IS IT REAL TO GET THE ABOVE SCORES WITHIN 6-8 MONTHS IF I STUDY EVERY DAY? :'( :'( :'( :'( How do you study for French?

If you study everyday, living in France, speaking only in French all day, maybe.
Otherwise, thinking you can learn French for the TEF in 8months is very delusional. It's a quite difficult test.

Ok, I do not want to discourage you with learning a new language and moreover my mother tongue. But you have to know that French, even if not the most difficult language to learn is not an easy language.
I took both TEF and CELPIP for my PR application and I found TEF harder than CELPIP. I scored max in TEF because I'm French, but it was not super duper easy.
What I would recommend is for you to subscribe to a beginner course in Alliance francaise (where I live, in Calgary, it costs $400 for the first 28-hour course) and you will see how you react to the language. May be you have a natural predisposition for the language and you will find it easy then may be you can consider going on with the courses.
Otherwise I agree with Skouja, in most cases learning enough French to be able to pass the test in a few months is very likely delusional...
Don't forget that French can bring you up to 22 points if you score max at the TEF. Is it enough point to get an ITA?

Just to add to what everyone else is saying, I've been studying French every day for about 3 years now. And I'm not planning to take TEF, because I doubt I'd be able to get a score high enough for it to make a difference to my CRS.

Nutshell answer is: Where there is a will, there is a way. If you are determined enough, yes, I think you can. Above all, the guy in the article linked below did just that (in 10 months, he scored Advanced in TEF):

However, he is obviously an exceptional guy. Are you (or, are you willing to put in exceptional effort?)?

Oh you too?
What questions did you have for the speaking part?

The guy most likely has exceptional skills and he did it in 10 months.
The question was: is it doable in 6-8 months though...

The point is not the exact number of months, but rather rapid learning (around one year) for the purposes of passing TEF. Plus, that guy achieved Advanced TEF after 10 months. I am not sure what the OP's listed score range would correspond to.

But the main point is that rapid learning is possible.

Sure, you're obviously right :D
And 6 months is so close to a year.

I do not want to shatter your dreams guys, but this is not only about "will" but mostly about ability. There's a whole world between being able to learn french and speak it well (which I believe absolutely everybody in this discussion board could achieve with a will) and scoring advanced in TEF in less than a year without living in a french speaking country or having French close relatives.

This guy is exceptional to begin with and even he, admits it.

I am french too and like the others french guys in this thread I found the test extremely difficult.

But if you've always been a quick learner in languages and are very motivated, give it a try.
