Hi all, does anyone have an experience where while their Canadian citizenship application is in progress, move to the US? Did they grant citizenship while in the US? Right now the test and ceremony are all online so there is really no difference if I am in Canada or US. I have a work opportunity to move by I am afraid my application will get too long or even be denied, could anyone please share if you have a similar experience? Really appreciate it ...

If I may ask, did you sever ties with Canada tax purposes after moving to the US for the tax year you applied for citizenship which I’m guessing is 2023.
I’m not sure if this will have negative impact on the application and looking for insight.

Have you gotten your citizenship grant yet?

I’ll appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

I got my Canadian PP 5 days ago. Successfully I was able to enter USA with old H1B and Canadian passport. My H1B is approved with Indian Citizenship. Welcome to answer any question you have.
I didn’t show my Indian passport, didn’t mention to officer that I changed my nationality. Simply showed Canada passport and I797 copy and told that I am going to work in USA on H1B. He approved it without asking any question
Hi - I will be in same boat in next 3-4 weeks. Question is- were you able to get your Canadian passport through urgent (next day pickup) processing and what travel proof did you present? Also- were you able to update citizenship on Nexus card through their website or do we actually have to reapply for Nexus?

Hi- I am in the same boat and have the Canadian passport and H1B stamp and i94 slip on Indian passport. I don’t have the original i797 approval notice and I just have the photocopy of it. Will the photocopy of i797 work along with Canadian passport?

Hi what will happened to GC processing which is already in progress on Indian PP. once the citizenship changes do we need to do any amendment?
Thanks.

@Anpman - Thank you for the prompt response. Did you had to inform the officer at POE that your citizenship has changed or did you do any further processing to update your records with USCIS after you entered USA? Was your I-94 tagged to the Canadian passport? Also, when you said "you entered 1st time to usa on work visa" do you mean you mean you used the i797(H1b Approval notice granted based on Indian citizenship) and Canadian passport to enter USA for the first time and you did not enter using this visa previously or never been to USA? Please advise.

I did not informed officer that my citizenship has changed and yes it was my 1st entry on work visa to usa so I just showed Canadian passport and i797 document based on Indian passport.my I 94 is tagged to Canadian passport per i94 website.I did not showed my Indian passport at all to officer .

@Anpman - Thank you for your quick response, really appreciate it. Do you by any chance know if for a similar situation(having Canadian passport but I1797+H1B visa stamped on Indian passport) how to proceed in the POE if it is not the 1st entry on that same H1B i.e. the person has stayed in USA on that H1B and I94 was issue against the Indian passport?

We have been in Canada for about 2.5 years now.

Last week, my I-140 was approved after a long wait times. If my organization files an H1B application next year, and I get selected in the lottery, will it affect my Canadian citizenship application?

Hello All! I recently got my canadian citizenship and passport. While travelling back from Canada to US, I presented my new passport, existing i797b ( valid for 1.5 years) and mentioned that I recently acquired new citizenship. Officer said they can not issue i94 for my new passport as i797 has to be reprocessed to be associated with Canadian passport ( this was suggested in secondary screening) . Since I had to still enter with "worker" status, I ended up using my Indian passport.

How do I go about this situation now? I was under impression that everythibg should be smooth based on prior experiences on this forum but that was not the case.

Could it be that the officer didnt know that I dont have to amend i797 in order to enter with Canadian passport? I am waiting for my lawyers to get back to me on this but if anybody has any meaningful inputs here, I would greatly appreciate them!

Thank you!

Yeah, I thought so too. I probably confused him by presenting my Indian passport first. I should have just handed over my Canadian passport + i797 only. Will re-enter and get it corrected.
Hi , did you get to cross the border to correct it? What’s the POE you have used? Is it possible to tag the i94 within USA at an i94 correction facility if i94 ended up tagged to Indian PP? Thanks the response.

Please, I am concerned. I have been in the US for three months. How long can I stay, and how can I extend my stay? And which application should I file? I want to stay with my kids in the US.
