It's impossible for any of us to say for certain. Whether you are allowed back into Canada or not (and for how long) is up to the border official you encounter when re-entering Canada. As a UK passport holder you should be able to re-enter without any issues. However there's no guarantee.
As scylla said no guarantees but my husband i and travel to the Dominion for a vacation from Canada with his U.k. Passport and he has been back and fourth Canada with no problems.

I was in the same situation as you are; came to Canada last August 2014; stayed six months, applied for an extension and granted until October 31, 2015; in the meantime, went to the UK to visit family for month in June while PR was in process; returned in July with absolutely no issues at the border (Toronto Airport). Just make sure you do have a return ticket, and proof that application is in process (Sponsor Approval Letter for example). Otherwise, just be truthful and make sure you say you are "visiting" only You should be fine!
I don't want to get a return ticket really as its money i dont have to waste. I'll defo have my SA letter by then, maybe even PR. So we will just have to wait and see.
