Hi everyone, I just wanted to give a heads-up to all those who are planning to apply or waiting for super visa. It is very important to note that CIC will stamp the super visa based on your passport expiry date. I heard that this is unlike of US and UK, where multiple entry visas are stamped for 10 years, irrespective of the passport validity.

My in-laws got their super visa stamped in 2015, but father-in-law got the visa only until Aug 2018, since his passport is expiring in Aug 2018. However, my mother-in-law got her visa until 2024, since her's was a new passport. They both got stamped for 2 years upon first entry in March 2016. We just got the visa extended for another 6 months. Now my father-in-law has to exit the country and apply for a new super visa since his original visa is expiring in Aug 2018.

IRCC does not issue TRVs or super visas beyond the passport validity.

The maximum validity one can expect is up to the passport expiry date. That's why many super visa applicants (or even TRV applicants) get new passports shortly before they apply for these visas

I have a quick question if anyone could answer would be really appreciated.

My parents got the Super Visa for only 4 years last month but I think as per the rule the Visa being issued for 10 years unless the applicant passport is expiring before 10 years.

My parents' passport is expiring in July 2025 (almost 7 years left to expiry) however, they just got the Super Visa stamp till Sep 2022, isn't weird thing happened?

Can anyone suggest, if I should request to restamp or extension Visa till their passport Validity?

Please help!

The rules do not automatically grant a 10 year visa.

It's up to the IRCC officer who processes their application how long a visa they are granted. In your case the officer opted to issue a 4 year visa rather than the full 10 years.

Restamping is not an option. They will have to reapply once their visas are close to expiry.

Thanks, Scylla for the quick reply.

One more question; let's say they will be in Canada a couple months before their Visas getting expire (Sep 2022), so Can I able to apply for "Visa" extension or I would have only one option that would be to reapply? Do they give an extension if the Visa is just about to expire?

Yes - you can apply for a visa extension provided they are remaining in Canada. Once they leave Canada, they would have to apply for a brand new visa.

You're asking about a situation four years from now. You would need to check the rules at that time

Hi Everyone,
My mother in law super visa has been approved in April 2018. Her passport expired on May 2019. So she got visa till May. But at the airport she got 2 years entry stamp. She can live here after May or we have to reapply her visa.

Hi Sandeep

So have you applied for her extension or the passport stamp is valid enough for her stay

Hello,

Could you please tell me what did you put in the question : Indicate how long you plan to stay in Canada ? at the form 5257e, Details of visit to Canada.

I am asking because they told me that the maximum is 2 years but I can see that they gave you 4 years .
