As far as I know, TRV applications in Canada are reserved for those with work or study permits. Not sure about super visas. Answer the questionnaire to guide you further:

If she is already in Canada, then she'll have to apply for an extension of stay. Applying for a super visa now won't allow her to stay for longer than 6 months.

1. This is true "As far as I know, TRV applications in Canada are reserved for those with work or study permits. Not sure about super visas. Answer the questionnaire to guide you further:" except the OP's mother is a green card holder and doesn't require a TRV to enter Canada.

I see, I wasn't sure if it's possible for his mom to apply/qualify for a super visa if his intent was to have her stay for over 6 months without needing extensions, part of why I advised him to answer the questionnaire.

Edited to add: Found this on the CIC site:

Visa-exempt visitors

If you do not need a visitor visa to enter Canada, you can still use the parent and grandparent super visa to stay in Canada for up to two years.
