Calling them is not going to accelerate your process at all. They´ve just started with june applications.
I know calling them do not accelerate, i also submitted web forum 2 times and call center also understood my situation so they also left comments on my behalf to visa center, but they are not replying to any body, not to me and even call center comments.

Hello guys

I applied on July 22 (on paper)- PWGP extension due to passport renewal.

I just logged in to my profile and (surprisingly) my application was approved. I don’t know how the hell.. given the processing times

timelines:

application sent: July 20 to CPC Edmonton
Application received: July 21
Correspondence letter: oct 22 (today) biometrics updated

Application approved: October 22, 2020

Total 3 months

I was hoping to get the PR soon as I was only pending biometrics and then to withdraw this WP application and get my money back. However, it’s great to have the peace of mind to have a valid work permit until next year.

Chances are if you applied before me, Yours will come soon!

They may take a little bit longer. Things may be speeding up a little bit!

Things are bad... but it is getting media coverage too. This is from October 21st.

He applied early to renew his work permit. After waiting eight months, he’s lost a job and a home

As of Friday, there were 55,102 new work permit applications and 504,150 renewal applications to be processed.

Yeah they’ve got a big backlog but they are working on it. I’m sure they know this and they have people working to manage this. Unfortunately, it may take some time until things speed up a bit more but they will eventually.

i do not think they are processing the backlog. They are working on the latest to meet the standard of the "for majority cases (can be 50.1%), the processing time is ***" in their website. For the long time backlogs they leave them away.
