Hi,

I am looking to transfer my settlement funds to a Canadian bank before I land. Which bank would you suggest to be the best for me as a new immigrant and which can get the formalities completed from outside Canada, i.e., account opening, money transfer, proof of settlement funds etc..

Any big bank would work fine. However, not every bank has a facility to open your account from overseas.. Depends on which country you are coming from. Also for proof of settlement, you can use a letter from your current bank.

Unless the Canadian bank has presence in your country you will have an issue opening an account remotely.

Following!

A friend who is in Canada for several years told me Tangerine bank charges much less than others. I have not looked at it yet but will soon.

I believe u can open account with Scotia bank online itself

You do not need a local bank account to transfer your settlement funds prior to landing. Just print out the last statement from your account back home and you should be fine.

Once landed just walk in to a bank and in 30mn you will have everything set up. you can then transfer your funds from overseas with online banking if that is an option.
