Dear all,

I did my masters(in Electronics) in India and I want to do another masters in Canada in Computer Science as major. I am having 3.6 years of experience as a software developer. I secured a score of 6.5 in IELTS (L:6.5, R: 7 , W: 6, S: 7).

Please suggest some good universities and colleges with my score and experience. I also want to know about the opportunities after education like which course is better and which Provence has better opportunities. Please suggest me by considering that aspect also. Can I get any funding?. Is there any useful link for searching for funding and universities information.?

How about getting visa for dependent and work permit for dependent.?

Please give me some useful information on these issues.

Thanks in advance..

Well Funding is available in almost all of the universities in Canada. For your profile I'd suggest Concordia or University of Regina.

But make sure to email the professors before applying. Makes it easy to get in !

Masters of Software Systems at UBC http://www.icics.ubc.ca/mss/

If you do a thesis based masters/PhD (including a research component), usually there is a good stipend/scholarship that you can get.

How about getting visa for dependent and work permit for dependent.?
Spouse of student can get an open work permit which is valid for the same duration as the study permit of the student. You can apply for this right when you apply for your own study permit.

Please give me some useful information on these issues.

Thanks in advance..

Most of the good universities in Canada ( within World Rank 500) requires you to have an undergraduate degree in computing science or related subjects ,if your undergraduate coursework does not have subjects such as algorithms, data structure ,Os, database ,its difficult to get an admission .However if you can demonstrate your knowledge by other means (for e.g academic papers, certifications , open source contributions ,GRE-Subject computer science) you still can convince the admission committee .IMO Your professional work experience helps if you are coming from a top tech company like Google, FB, Adobe ,amazon or companies which are working with cutting edge techs (Uber, palantir to name a few) or your professional work experience is backed by a suitable reference .
Lakehead imo is not amongst top unis in CS in Canada ,I guess its ranking lies in the north of 1000 last time I checked so I am not sure about the quality of education/ cost of education.

hi murali
negatives first
first i assume your B.Tech is also Electronics.

so even though your work area is computer coding, you need to analyse if you can secure a position in university for masters in computer science.
because they need computer background.

second
masters is master
you already finished masters, so only few colleges have the option for "dual major" or "second masters".

third
your previous masters will have a effect on visa officer and it may lead to rejection by fact that
"Your proposed studies are not reasonable in light of one or more of the following : your qualifications, previous studies, employment, level of establishment, other educational opportunities available in your country or Canada, language abilities, or your future prospects and plans."

if i was the visa officer i would conclude you are trying to do second masters to gain entry to country ,work here and stay back.it may not be true according to you but i am scared tats what your file is putting forward to visa officer.

positives
your work experience.

now if you are planning to do masters to work in Canada and settle down then go for a management program.
so you can justify the visa officer
if you are persistent on doing masters get into a good university"not college" and give proper reasons for visa officer

all the best

any other universities in which i will get admission for sure.
I had a gap of 2 years after my graduation.
No One can say for sure , You should look at programs which has right blend of Computer Science and EE (embedded systems,Networking . Computer Architecture) .

Try Dalhousie, Ryerson,UVic , UofO(May be ambitious)
