Hey everyone!

I have residency in Canada and have to complete the required 2 years out of 5 in Canada. The deadline for my family to move from the UK is coming fast this September. I really want to study medicine at university, and know that the 2 yr deadline is extended if you are already in education abroad like my sister. So she will not have to move untill another 4 years when her degree is complete. However, I graduated last year and want to apply for medicine, am I allowed to do this and extend my 2yr requirement as well?

Thank you!

As far as I know, there is no exemption for students to meet the 2 in 5 year residency requirements.

The only exemptions I know of are:
1) if you are accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse in another country,
2) if you are a PR and have been transferred to another country by your Canadian employer,
3) if you are accompanying a PR spouse who meets the definition of 2) or
4) if you are a minor child accompanying a Canadian citizen parent or a parent who meets the definition of 2).

how can you say that your residency obligations is extended if you are already engaged in your study before immigrating to canada. there is no such rule , from where did you find this information if I may ask ?
