Hello Everyone,

I got an offer in a Master's program at the University of Waterloo. I applied for my study permit on the 15th of May 2017, with the following documents:

1) My sponsor's (maternal Aunt's spouse - who is a Canadian national) bank statement for the last two years (90,000 CAD), income tax returns, property documents, employment letter, revenue department of Canada's statements and affidavit of support to finance me - he mentioned they have no children and then will support me financially holistically.

2) official family tree document showing that the sponsor is my maternal aunt's spouse

3) My own statement of purpose (SOP) entailing how this master's program is in line with exactly my job and bachelor's. Also, I explained hos this degree will help in further consolidating my position at work, at my current organization.

4) Attached my bank statement to show that I have running income from job and I will chip in to cater for my finances as well, as much as I can (6000 CAD)

5) Study Leave letter from employer - my employer wrote a letter explaining that I have been granted a study leave for the duration of the program, once it is finished, I will return to this organization in Islamabad, Pakistan

6) I attached affidavit of support along with property evaluation certificate from my father as well - stating that in-case I need any financial assistance he will dispose of the asset and use it for me

VISA rejection based on these points (& my personal assessment):

1) Ties to your country of residence - I have shown them (family tree) and explained in the SOP that I am the only son and as per norms of our religion/culture/society, son has to provide and take care of the his parents + I attached Study Leave letter from my current employer

2)You have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada at the end of your study period, in reaching this decision following are the factors I have considered:

a) purpose of visit - Attached University's acceptance letter, explained precisely and concisely how this program is inline with what I want to do, actually wrote two paragraphs on it

b) personal assets and financial status - my sponsor is showing 90000 CAD bank statement along with other evidence

I WOULD HIGHLY APPRECIATE IF SOMEONE CAN HELP ME OUT IN UNDERSTANDING HOW TO CONTROL THE DAMAGE AND REAPPLY. (I can certainly share my SOP/other documents if someone needs clarification)

Time is money, folks, I have to apply within two weeks, because my program starts 5th September 2017.

ps - my program offers no deferral, so reapplying after realigning my strategy is the only option; and I do not want to waste another year.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Share your SOP. Relevancy also matters according to your previous education. The weak point i see is that your aunt is canadian citizen and you showed them her bank statement, this creates a impression in mind of VO that applicant may not leave the country after completion of his course. You can make your application strong by showing your own bank statement or your father who is in Pakistan. Showing that you know someone in their country is not a right option.

My statement of purpose:

To,

VISA Officer,

High Commission of Canada,
Islamabad, Pakistan Dated: May 15, 2017

Subject: Letter of Purpose

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I am honored to be offered an admission for the Masters of Development Practice (MDP) from the University of Waterloo, for which they only select 17-20 brightest minds from the world. I am working with one of the most impactful policy makers of Pakistan for the behemoth $62 billion project, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Having thus far worked on many developmental project across the country, and witnessing the unsustainable practices applied to these energy and infrastructure projects, my passion for ensuring a safe and sustainable development for Pakistan has only increased. From the prestigious University of Waterloo I want to attain state of the art education and an insight into sustainable developmental practice models from learned professors. I want to further polish my academic and professional expertise through the mandatory field-work opportunity offered in this program.

In Pakistan there are only a few universities that provide the same degree. The standard of education and the qualifications of professors in these universities does not compare with those at the reputable University of Waterloo. Moreover, the networking and field-placement opportunities in Pakistani universities are also very limited in comparison with the University of Waterloo. As far as the employment opportunities are concerned, the MDP degree opens a gateway for multiple opportunities in International organizations which are working towards sustainable development in Pakistan, such as the United Nations, World Bank, and DFID etc.

Upon completing my degree, I will immediately return to Pakistan and rejoin my current organization (the Pakistan-China Institute), which has sanctioned my study leave for the duration of my degree. My Master’s degree, combined with the unlimited and unparalleled opportunities for growth provided by my current employer, will definitely aid my ambition of becoming a vital force working towards sustainable development in Pakistan.

Consolidating my past and prospective work experience along with academic and professional skills attained from this Master’s degree, I envision establishing a sustainable-energy think-tank with a dedicated consultancy and research wing, within a decade. With a primary aim to craft practical policies and help build a green and sustainable Pakistan, the think-tank would also connect all the relevant stakeholders on a single platform to foster development policy dialogues, and aid international organizations and investors in understanding Pakistan’s ecosystem for investments and donations.

Importantly, I am the only child of my parents - as per our cultural, social and religious values the son has to provide for and take care of his aged parents. So it is binding upon me to return to my home as soon as my education completes.

I did my O and A levels GCE from Bahria College (2006-2009) and Headstart School (2009-2011) here in Islamabad. I managed to score straight 9 A’s and 3 A's in my GCE O and A Levels, respectively. Afterwards, I completed my Bachelor’s in Economics degree from one of the most acclaimed business schools of Pakistan – Lahore University of Management Sciences (2011-2015). I graduated with a 2.82 cgpa.

It is to inform you that my maternal aunt Mrs. Abida Tanveer Qureshi’s (Passport: HK015263) husband Mr. Tanveer Shoaib Qureshi (Passport: HB556550) is my primary sponsor. He will be covering my fee, living cost and other expenses in entirety. They do not have any children and have always treated me like their son – therefore, they want to support my dream of obtaining a competitive and cutting-edge Master’s degree from the University of Waterloo. I will also be using my own savings of around 6000-7000 CAD for covering my initial expenses (this amount is subject to increase because I will receive 3 more salaries before departing for Canada).

In all honesty and fairness - the sole purpose of obtaining the study permit is to complete my Master’s degree with flying colors and return to Pakistan as soon as my studies are completed, in accordance with the visa expiration date. Therefore, it is my utmost and humble request to issue the requisite permit, on a fast-track.

Should there be additional information/documents required from my side, please feel free to contact me.

PS – I have attached original documentary evidence to prove availability of funds and relationship between my mother and aunt, as well as other relevant documents and letters, with this letter.

Thanking you and warmest regards,

Harris

Dear Raja Sb,

Do you think relevancy was an issue in my application, after going through my personal statement.

Secondly, I attached my personal bank statement showing 5000 cad.

Thirdly, I'm planning to dispose off my father's asset and subsequently use his bank statement. (I've already mentioned this asset in my last application). However, my concern is that won't it be decreasing my ties with country of residence?

Regards and thanks
