Study Permit (NY or Los Angeles office) - study permit to Canada from US

Please feel free to share your information and timeline of your study permit process applied from United States. This is my personal timeline of study permit:
- I submitted on May 18th
- I got my upfront medical examination on 2nd July (sent a mail through Webform to inform IRCC)
- I had my biometrics done on 21st July. (the system updated very quickly just right after biometrics done)

-Mar 28th Submitted my online application for a study permit
-Jul 13th Submitted biometrics at an Application Support Center in NY
-Jul 14th Review of Eligibility started (I did not get an email about this. I just checked my status online).

Now, I am waiting for a decision as well.

Nice!! I am waiting for the decision. I am uncertain about how the new approval process has been!! Does someone receive a letter (called prior approval confirmation)? But anyway, my application's step is all completed and I am just waiting for the decision. New update:

It seems both of our applications are complete since we have done biometrics and medical exams. So I guess the “Approval-in-principle” stage does not necessarily apply to our situation.

I remember reading someone’s post on this forum that they submitted an application for visitor visa in the U.S. in July for family reunion, and their visa was approved within days.

It appears that the visa offices are certainly processing visas. It might take more time for the officers to process study permits since there are more necessary documents to verify in comparison to visitor visas. I also heard that the online applications submitted in the US are actually reviewed in Canada, and only paper applications are processed in the U.S. I do not know how true that is.

We submitted an application for study permit and open work permit for spouse on April 27th online through IRCC website. The school recently has informed us that we have to be there in Fall or defer til next Fall 2021. We have left notes via web form numerous times and always get same response about in process.
Recently, I got a web form response back saying our application was with New York VAC. When I talked to New York VAC they say they only have records if we were asked for passport or biometrics but I am told being a US citizen don't need it.?
How do I find out about application if IRCC says New York VAC has it and they say they don't. Time us ticking here as fall semester is gettibg close. We have a family so its tskes so much planning. Any advice or insight on how to find out what's going on woukd be greatly appreciated.

Yea, it seems very likely true that US applications are processed in Canada. My biometrics correspondence letter says case processing center Edmonton, AB on the bottom.

That is interesting. When did you submit your biometrics? I did mine two weeks ago, and I have not got a letter acknowledging that they received my biometrics. It was only updated in the system.

I hope you are doing well. The online application should go directly to IRCC. The VAC is a private company, and they have contracts with IRCC. The VAC is not responsible for making decisions on visas. In normal days, you can use their facility to submit paper or online applications. They also do biometrics and transmit passports to Canadian Consulate for visa stamping.

I am actually confused by the message you mentioned. If you and your spouse sent your applications online, the VAC should not have anything to do with it. Did you mean the Canadian Consulate-General in New York?

According to IRCC’s website that U.S. citizens do not have to submit biometrics. In fact, you can apply for a study permit at a Canadian Port of Entry in normal days. Given the current situation, I don’t think applying at a POE is an option because the Canadian government says that applying for a study permit at POE right now is NOT allowed.

Hi there! We are both US citizens. I thought we didn't have to do biometrics or medical too. We have called IRCC and they have said application is on process. I got a reply back sayibg New York VAC has file. Please inform how to order the CAIPS notes and how long it will take.

Port of Entry applications are not being accepted or processed at this time due to COVID-19. This used to be possible for Americans but is not possible right now while the border restrictions are in place (right now they are in place until end of August but of course may be extended further). Americans have to apply online at this time.
