Has anybody applied for a study Visa within the UK? I applied Feb 1st, biometrics submitted Feb 18th and no update since. Processing times have dropped to 1 week so confused why I am still waiting. Interested to know if anyone else has had such a long wait too.

The processing times only include the fastest 80% of applications, not only will they tell you this but I can attest that this is true: if the current processing time is 1 week then there is no way in hell they have included the applications of the slowest 20% in their calculations, applicants such as myself are just ignored... to give you an idea i've now been waiting for 24 weeks.

Unfortunately, you are probably in the '20% bracket' too since you've been waiting 10 weeks. I doubt you will need to wait as long as me for a decision however so that's some consolation.

A better gauge of how long your application will take is to make a list of things that will slow down your processing, things like: how much traveling have I done? do I have relatives in Canada? have I lived in other countries? etc..

At this point you can order GCMS notes and CBSA notes, but be aware they will mostly likely take 30 days or more to be sent to you. I find case specific enquiries to be completely useless.

One final note, I suspect the London office is just really slow as well. At one point in the last 6 months their processing times were up to 23 weeks while nearly everywhere else was between 4 to 7 weeks. If you want to know why that's so then research "Student direct stream"

Wow 24 weeks, I feel for you. I am going out my mind after 10. I hope you hear soon.
I grew up in Canada and my parents and sister are all over there on visas at the moment so I was worried it might delay things for me if they are checking into all that. Just so frustrating. Life is on hold while you wait and it would make it much easier if they provided some sort if timeline to at least know what kind of wait you are in for personally.
I'll have a look at that student direct stream.
Thanks for your reply.

uh oh, that sounds similar to me. You said you grew up in Canada, were you a permanent resident? my mother and sisters live in Canada as Canadian citizens but I also have brothers who live in the UK(UK-only citizens), it's probably safe to assume they are checking info on each of your family members which will slow processing down. They are probably also looking over your past in Canada with a fine-toothed comb.

My advice is to not send any case specific enquiries or complaints through their feedback form, no matter how long they are taking.. at best they have no effect, at worst they may slow down your application even more haha

I was a PR too, I went through 4 years of high school, 1 year in college, and worked in Canada. At a certain point I decided I wanted to reconnect and spend time with my brothers that didn't emigrate to Canada, so I lived in the UK for a couple of years and ended up getting a degree at a British university. I was pretty ignorant back then and didn't know about the residency obligations.

Just try and be as patient as possible because there really is nothing else you can do.

Yeah I lived there from 3 -18 but we never took citizenship. You think it would count for something though...but no.
