Study permit extension for conversion Master to PhD or change of Master

Hello all,

Has anyone here convert their Master studies to PhD (without finishing the Master) or change from a Master to another one ? What specific documents did you submit for the extension ? Did your letter of enrollment mentioned that you are converting Master to PhD ?

You can attach LOA/ Enrollment letter for your phd studies for extension

Shouldn’t be an issue. As already specified include LOA for the PhD program but also include an explanation that you never graduated from your masters because you are able to continue studying in your program and complete a PhD using your studies as a masters student as the first years of your PhD. Would hope the VO is familiar with the ability to covert masters into a PhD in some programs but never hurts to explain. Would a
so include your masters transcripts even if it pass/fail.

Hello everyone,

I am reaching out again as my Master has been now converted to a PhD but I will not receive a letter of acceptance for the new program as it is a transfer from MSc to PhD. I got a letter of enrolment that states that I have been a full time student in a Master Program for past 18 months and that I am enrolled now as a PhD student. I am also getting a letter from my department stating that I converted the Master to a PhD as well as my scholarship amount and expected date of completion.

Should that be enough ? Also do I need to mention that I did not graduate from the Master as this is used as first year of PhD ??

The documents you mention are sufficient to apply for the extension and they prove that the university has placed you into the PhD program. I would assume the officer will favourably interpret your application because switching from a master's to PhD indicates that you are a well-above-average student.

Since officers are busy, briefly describe in your letter of explanation that you have switched to a PhD program and that your master's semesters count towards your PhD. This description will help the officer understand your situation more quickly.
