Has anyone seen faster processing after MP inquiry? We did MP inquiry for our sp+sowp combined application and was informed that only criminal background has been completed till now.

We are wondering if the application would see a faster processing now. June 23 application. Thanks.

I simply googled "member of Parliament " for my city of residence and emailed their office. Their office has staff to handle such immigration related emails and reply back within a day requesting more details.

We had to fill up a form with application details and wait for around 3 weeks for their response.

I approached my MP's office on January 6th, 2025, seeking assistance in expediting my application. Unfortunately, after three weeks, they provided no new insights beyond the standard information I had already received from the IRCC contact center. I had originally submitted my study permit extension and spouse open work permit extension on July 9th, 2024.

This delay has become increasingly challenging for me since I completed my studies in December 2024 as I had to leave my job, as I'm no longer authorized to work since I am no longer a student. I also do not want to apply for PGWP without a valid SP, since I would not be able to work until the PGWP is approved which can take an additional six month. This has left me feeling stuck and frustrated not being able to work while bills continue to pile up.

I contacted them but it was useless because they only got the same information from the online file and told me that my application can still take SEVERAL MONTHS. I applied May 11 SP+ SOWP + 2 children, and still waiting. I don’t need that result anymore as I had to apply to PGWP on “Maintained Status” in Dec 1st. Now, I am curious to know what is IRCC processing SP or PGWP. I finished my studies August 2024, stopped working Sept 6 until today, 5 months NO working. I can’t tell how I dealt with this I just went through all the phases.
What I recently heard is, If your situation is dangerous or delicate YOU can ask IRCC to give you an answer, you will need to hire an IMMIGRATION LAWYER to represent you with a “MANDAMUS”. We are not there yet, but that will be our last source if my husband lose his one and only job that supports a family of 4.
I wish you all luck while waiting and be enlightened of what to do!

SAME situation here! I ran out of adjectives to describe this situation and how we all, in my family, feel. I have being strong because of my children.

Hello, I need your help in this manner. My partner is graduating on April 28 and I have SOWP. We talked with a consultant and she told that we can keep working even though we apply to PGWP in maintained status. I am trying to provide her with evidence. Do you know where it is written?

In addition, how did you manage it? Does the spouse keep working while you apply for PGWP? In our case, when my partner stops working while applying PGWP, he cannot apply for my SOWP as he was supposed to be working under a certain NOC code. So I was wondering what kind of a plan you have. Should we keep the spouse working until a decision is made on extension and also apply for PGWP?

When does your SOWP expire? You can work until expiry. To get an approved extension, your spouse will need to meet new PGWP requirements for you to be eligible. So if you apply to extend without meeting new requirements, you can work on implied status until refused.

This is where it gets tricky. SOWP & Study permit are expiring March 30, 2025. He is graduating on April 28, 2025. So if he cannot keep working after applying PGWP, he cannot apply for my SOWP with PGWP. He has the job offer but we will be in maintained status meaning that he cannot work. I assume I can work until a decision is made about our extensions.

As I said, I also need to prove to my consultant about it.

If I graduate in April and still do not receive my study permit extension, it will be over the 90-day restoration period after my original permit expiry. Can I still apply for a PGWP in Canada, or do I have to leave Canada to apply?


My university's immigration advisor gave conflicting advice; they told me not to graduate early and apply for a PGWP while maintaining status. But then they said I have to apply outside of Canada if I graduate in April.

I have the literally the same problem as you! I am the student and our visas are expiring on March 31st. I have applied for extension last July 31, 2024 and in the gcms notes it got stuck in criminality assessment. It’s so hard for me to start finding an eligible occupation if im going to be implied status after finishing my studies because I don’t know when am I gonna be allowed to start working again. It really frustrates me. I don’t want my spouse to go back home.
