How much is the study visa validity period by which a person has to travel to Canada for study? (I'm not asking about the visa duration, I'm asking about the visa travel validity). I'm having certain issues due to which I wish to defer my admission, but my visa application is already in process. If I'm issued visa to join fall semester, and I dont travel to canada by then, would I have to reapply for visa for the next term I enroll in? or can I travel to canada on the same visa for the next term??

What will happen to my study permit if i don't immediately leave for canada and instead enroll in a later term. I applied for study permit on the basis of my fall term admission, but i now wish to defer to spring term.

i don't know much, but if you remove your admission from the college you have applied or don't attend it, the college would send your status report to CIC. So if you get out of college and travel to Canada, you need a genuine reason like medical reasons, or else you'll be facing problems. And if they are not convinced they can send you back.

I was just thinking if I may be able to defer my admission to another term i.e. Spring 2014.

In that case, you should be able to give good reason as to why you took one semester off. Like medical or family emergency. But still let others reply too and get their opinions.

I have certain family problems due to which I wish to postpone my plan of going to canada. The next available term is Spring 2014 (starting April 2014). So if I may get a visa in July/August, its almost 8 months before I fly to canada. :S

Not sure if that would be a problem, just convince the officer and get the letter from your college or uni stating your starting term and ending term. And when you get in canadam just apply for a renewal of the study permit.

How can I convince the officer? I want to postpone my plan so that if my brother doesn't get a proper job, then he may apply for spring 2014, and then we can go together. The university can defer my admission to another term, and they can issue another admission letter stating the start and end date of the program, that ain't a problem. The only problem I see is what to say when I land in canada after 8 months of my visa issue date :S

Hi

As far as i know there should be no problem.

I am currently due in Canada for fall2013 although i originally planned for Winter2013 but due to personal reasons i deferred my admission.

So long as your status with the school remains intact then i foresee no probs.

Cheers

Hi,

Just get a deferral letter from college.
When you arrive in Winter intake.
Don't forget to carry both offer letter.

It's not a big deal.

Good Luck

Do you mean you applied for Jan 2013 intake, and you deferred your admission to september 2013 (8 months)?

Hm well... my original offer letter is with CHC right now. So whenever my docs return, I will keep it safe. But won't they ask why I deferred my admission to a later term, when I land in Canada and they are stamping visa on my study permit?
