Question #16 on the application for a permanent resident card (renewal) says, "Place you became a permanent resident of Canada"

She was approved while outside of Canada. Does this question mean the first immigration office she arrived at in Canada, like I think it was Toronto where she landed.
For immigration purposes, the time and place somebody becomes a permanent resident is when/where they landed in Canada as a PR with their PR visa.

When she was approved and got the visa is irrelevant. It is possible to be approved and get a visa but never land and hence never become a PR at all. Therefore, the place they are talking about is Toronto if that is where she arrived and filled out her PR paperwork. It should also say that on her PR card.

Thanks Leon,

on #19C. They ask for your address history since becoming a PR. Four lines to indicate all places lived just isn't enough especially if they stipulate in the guide to account for each month. Where do they want you to write all of the places:)

Make a separate sheet with all the addresses. Write "Address history for #19c" at the top of it.
Write in #19c on the form: "see attached list".

They do not really go into who was accompanying whom. A PR who is living with a Canadian citizen spouse outside of Canada will continue to meet the residency requirements but it is a bit tricky to renew their PR card every 5 years because a PR renewal application should originate from within Canada and in some cases they are asked to come and pick up their card in person. They can however at any time go to a Canadian embassy and apply for a PR travel document to return to Canada because living with their spouse 2/5 years is as good as being in Canada for 2/5 years. A PR card expiring does not mean you lose your status. As long as you still meet the requirements, you can renew it even years later.

However, a PR spouse will not get to apply for citizenship based on days they spent with their spouse overseas unless the spouse is military or works for the Canadian government. Otherwise, they have to stay in Canada in order to meet the citizenship residency requirements like almost everybody else.

In C. Personal History(continued)
#20 Work and/or educational history:
It asks where you've worked and/or studied in the past 5 years.

For part of this time she studied in Colombia. Are they asking for places studied in Canada only? or do they want the school/time studied in Colombia?
We are inclined not to put any schools from Colombia as they are not recognized in Canada anyway.

Hi again,

We are getting closer to application time. I just got back from work and hope to get some more stuff done...

She has travelled to different countries in south america and the usa and europe, india etc... while holding permanent resident status in Canada.
She still met the requirements of being in Canada.
1)Do the immigration stamps from those non-speaking countries on her passports held during the 5 years need to be translated? Where is the easiest place to translate those places in or near Vancouver or Vancouver island would be better.
2)Since the name of a school she attended in Colombia is a spanish one, does it need to be translated?
3)When we are filling out section C #19,20,21 it only gives year and month. in address history, if she lived somewhere for a month say from Nov 15 2009 to December 15 2009 and then in another place from December 15 2009 to February 12th 2010 would she put: 2009-11 to 2009-12 ..... and then 2009-12 to 2010-02?
