Steps to export the vehicle from USA to Canada...

Hi, I am planning to do exactly the same, can you guide me what you did.? I rented a 15' Uhaul and will be towing my car using that, did it change anything.?

I towed my car on the back of my 15 or was it 17 ft uHaul and crossed on July 2018. I imported my car at the border. I honestly don't recollect much, but I followed the instructions posted at the start of this thread.
Something about getting a TIN or VIN number to export at US border. The process was butter smooth.
After importing, i went to Canada Tire few days later to get some inspection done, then traded my US DL for a Ontario one.
Sorry it's been so long I forgot all the steps.

I understand that PR are permitted to import an eligible vehicle free of duty. What is the requirement for length of ownership ? e.g. if i buy a car 3 months before landing am I still OK ? TIA

Generally you have to have a clean Title. If you have a loan - could be some difficulties to export not paid off car to a foreign country and registration in Canada. (but that's different question).
I did not see any "length of ownership" limitation.

As of October 3, 2014 all self-propelled vehicles must be filed in AES regardless of value or country of destination or purpose (personal or business).

**To start your 72 hours for vehicle exportation

(And be in compliance with 15CFR 30.2 (a) (1) (iv) (H))

File AES and obtain an ITN (Internal Transaction No).



(Your ITN is a system generated, 15 digit combination of numbers and letters beginning with X2018, for example X20180924963700).​

1. Email the BUFFALOVINNYOFFICE@CBP.DHS.GOV with your ITN, VIN number

I received the follow mail from Border Customs Department, as per the mail in the first step they are requesting to generate EIN number ? if i crossing the border and exporting car self, do i sill need EIN number ? before generating the ITN from AES?
