Statutory Declarations

Hello,

I am applying for Canadian residency in British Columbia and I am being sponsored by my husband. Are two statutory declarations from friends/family necessary for married couples or is it just for common-law and conjugal. I noticed on a guide I have printed out it specifically says "If you are a common-law or conjugal partner.." but does not say married couple. I want to clarify this so that we don't miss a thing. We have friends and family writing these for us now just in case but I thought I would ask. Thanks! :)

I believe you are reading it correctly. I couldn't find the section you talked about to read it for myself.

I never did any declarations like this when I sponsored my wife, and our application went through quite quickly.

Thank you! How long ago did you and your wife go through this process? We are applying inland and from what I hear it is slightly faster than applying outland although nothing seems to be too speedy when it comes to this process!

correct, statuatory declarations are NOT necessary for married couples. just move past it, and write N/A on the checklist, if it's listed.

not sure where you are getting your info from. for the majority, Inland certainly is NOT faster than outland. Inland is taking 2ish years, while many visa offices are processing files in less than a year. if the applicant is VISA EXEMPT, then they should NOT be applying inland! I would recommend HIGHLY to reconsider sending in an inland application. Inland processing is NOT recommended for 99% of applicants. Where is the applicant from? if from the US, Europe, Australia, NZ, and most other countries, they should NOT be applying inland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are from New Jersey as in the US... then you should most definitely NOT apply inland. Current us outland applicants are being approved in 6 months and less!!!!! As stated above, inland is taking 2 years... they are still processing applications from AUGUST 2013!!!! You will be making a HUGE mistake if you apply inland!!!!!! DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

here are some facts about outland that you may not realize:
1) US applications are processed in OTTAWA, NOT LA OR NYC!!!!!
2) the posted processing times online are NOT averages, and are misleading
3) the ottawa spreadsheet is in my signature, and will show you most 2014 applicants are already approved and landed.
4) an outland applicant can be IN canada when the application is submitted and processing
5) an outland applicant can use a Canadian address in their application

It's been a few years, she got her PR about 5 and half years ago. It took about 7 months for the process then (through Kiev), looks like things have slowed down since then.

I just want to reiterate what rhcohen2014 has said. Outland is the best for you if you do not have any major red flags in your application.

-Ottawa is the VO where your Outland application will be sent
-Ottawa handles applications for several countries, not just the USA
-US citizens appear to be getting fast tracked (6 months or less) hence the current posted Ottawa timelines doesn't really apply for the average US citizen applicant

I sponsored my wife from the US via Outland. It took 7 months. And this was BEFORE they really started to fast track Americans.

I was told this by an immigration consultant probably 9 months ago, at the time the processing times online showed inland moving faster but I have not looked at that most recently. I am from New Jersey, USA! I am able to apply outland while living here in B.C.???? I thought I must be living in New Jersey???

Wow, I had no idea. I could have sworn I read that you must live in your state of residency if applying outland. I see the processing times for outland are quicker for assessing the sponsor, it says 48 days as of today but when assessing the applicant (me) it states 16 months so it seems to still take some time. I know these are just an estimate of wait times. Now I am seeing that applying inland has become much longer than it was before! This whole process has been so confusing! :-(

Remember that your time in BC is "visiting". Your residence is still in the USA while you are just "visiting" your husband.

Also remember that the times of Ottawa being 16 months is the average for everyone. Ottawa handles all sorts of applications, not just US citizens. US citizens are on a quicker timeline so the 16 months does not really apply. For more details, see my post here:
