Hi guys !!
Inquiring if anyone could help me out a bit here :)

I am from Europe and me and my boyfriend are getting married in Europe and he needs the Statement in Lieu of Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad.
I have read through the website stating what needs to be done, but one thing there bothers me. The part where it says about providing a statutory declaration.

Is the statutory declaration something you get from the province you live in, like official form and all or can he just write that information on a piece of paper (name, address, marital status) and take it to the notary?
I have tried to search information but I haven't found anything I could trust.

Anyone that has done that, please share how you did with the statutory declaration! Thanks bunch!!

We're you able to figure this out? I sent in my certified copy of my passport with the document provided on the gov website. The instructions are not very clear.

Yes we got this figured out. Need to find a notary near you, copy of birth certificate and statement of non-marriage (just a paper writte on the single status) then notarized that and send it to Ottawa, on that address that is on the website. Then check if it needs to be send the embassy of the country you are getting married in. We needed to send it to embassy before it was legal in the country we got married in. The instructions on the website are not that clear, I agree.

I typed up mine by myself and had a Provincal Notary Public stamp and sign it, it worked perfectly in Asia. Also another good idea would be to get a Notary to stamp a copy of your birth certificate and always have extra copies of your passport, drivers and other id when you go abroad.
