my wife got a V-1 visa its a visitors visa does this mean she has to leave canada every 6 months? or can she stay for the duration of my study?

Yes I have the same question too. I am a graduate student at Waterloo, with a 2 year study permit. I want to apply a TRV for my wife. I have been told to apply for a maximum of 6 months visit for my wife and when she is here, then apply for an extension.

Can anyone please explain the procedure for applying for this extension and what's the probability of getting it? I have also seen posts in the forum that suggest applying for a work permit or a resident permit. Does anyone have an experience with that? How long is the process and can the spouse stay in Canada while the application is in process and the TRV has expired?

Thanks in advance for the help

Hi, I am working in India. My husband is studying in Canada. He says I'm eligible for a work permit as he's a student. Is it so? What visa should I apply for - a temporary resident visa or open work permit? I also have a three-year-old son - what visa should I apply for him? Also should I show any funds?
- Nithya

Any advise seniors?

1. First apply for TRV http://www.vfs-canada.co.in/visaapplication.html
2. Second apply for OWP at the port of entry along with your spouse study permit.
3. Funds: CAD 10,000 + CAD 4,000 + CAD 3,000.

Hi I am a student with a valid study permit till mid 2014. My wife got her TRV for 4 months (we gave prove in her TRV application that she would be going back from Canada soon).

I want to know if she can apply for OWP at the port of entry as we are from Pakistan. I was reading elsewhere on the forums and it was suggested that only citizens of country that don't require a visa to enter Canada can apply for OWP at the point of entry.

Even if she can apply would it be wise to apply it later because applying for OPW at point of entry would contradict with her TRV application mentioning her intention to leave back soon. So I was thinking that this might raise the chances of her being denied entry to Canada. If this is the case would it not be more appropriate to apply at a later point after arrival, but the real question is if it is possible to apply afterwards without requiring her to leave the country and re-enter?
