Spouse Visa

Hi Guys,

I am a Permanet Resident (India) settled in Calgary . If i get my wife on a dependent visa, then can she apply for work permit within Canada??? If so, how to proceed??

I am planning to apply for her PR once she comes here.

If you were on a temporary work permit, you could apply for an open work permit for your wife but since you are already PR, you will have to sponsor her to become PR too.

If you can get a visit visa for her to come visit you, you can apply to sponsor her from within Canada, advisable that she stay in Canada while the application is being processed, you can apply for work permit for her at the same time. I have heard it can take 7-8 months to get her a work permit, 1-2 years to get her PR. If you apply outland, she is staying in India until the PR application is complete. For spouses in India, as seen at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp#asia would take on average 4 months plus around 7 weeks it takes in the beginning to approve you as a sponsor.
