My spouse and I originally want to do an inland application, unfortunately the tourist visa was taking so long because of Covid 19 (we applied early 2020 TRV) and we got tired of waiting for this and sent our spousal sponsorship application 2 weeks ago for outland application. it got delivered April 2 2021. But just recently we got the approval of the tourist visa application. I tried get a refund for the payment but it says that we cannot do a refund because one of the office is already working in the application. We haven’t receive any email from IRCC that they have received our application.

Is it possible that my spouse can still come and then change the application to inland while the papers are being process then apply for an open work permit?

As far as I know you could withdraw your outland application and resubmit and inland application with an open work permit, that would mean however that your spouse has to stay in Canada for the duration of the application, you would lose the fee (except for the RPR fee) and the WP would take 6 months probably right now.

Alternatively your spouse can come and stay on the Outland application, not sure about the timeline between the two though right now. This would allow your spouse to travel outside of Canada and stay for extending period outside.

Thank you for your response. If my spouse will come here as a tourist while waiting the outland result, will he need to go out of the country and go back in once his PR is approve?
For medical, can he do the test inside Canada when he get the request?

- Medical can be done within Canada
- Finalizing the application can also be done within Canada
- The advice given to you above is correct. You cannot "switch" an application from outland to inland. If you wanted to change to inland, you would need to withdraw the outland application and reapply from scratch inland. Processing times would also start from scratch.
- There are no issues having an outland application while the spouse is in Canada. Many of us here have done that including myself.

Hi I am canadian PR and my wife is from Pakistan and I applied for outland online in September 2022 for which I have received AOR and SA but no medical and file has been sent to London VO that is notoriously slow. Meanwhile, My wife got her TRV approved and she will travel with me in April 2023. Given the terrible wait times, do you think I cancel the outland and apply inland in April 2023. This way hopefully I will have PR by the end of 2023 or sooner. While the outland applications for london can take 2 years and I might be getting PR in september 2024. Not sure what to do?
Will it raise any suspicions on my case if I go through. Also I am a bit scared if my wife becomes pregnant on visitor visa, I will have no coverage for delivery.

thanks
