Hi,

I need some clarification. My wife and I are currently applying for PR under the CEC program. We both live in Canada and have work permits (I have full-time employment and she is self-employed). I am the main applicant for the application. We submitted the application on April 12, got the medical exams on May 15 and at the moment we are waiting for the response. My wife needs to travel outside Canada due to a family situation for a month and a half (starting on August 9th). There is a big probability that we get the response after she leaves.
My questions are:
1) Would the application be compromised because she leaves the country during the process? I am staying all time.
2) Should she update her address using a Webform after she leaves? (in case we haven't got a response)
3) In case we get the response after she leaves, could she enter through the US border on a private vehicle with the CoPR?

To answer your questions.
1) No, this will not affect the status of the application. When you reach the Portal 1 stage, they will ask you to declare that you are in Canada. Simply tell them your wife is outside and provide a return date, they will pause her side of things until she gets back to Canada. You can proceed to declare that you are in Canada and your process will continue.
2) No updates needed, IRCC is already processing what they have, I travelled to my home country before I even got AOR and never updated or asked to update the travel schedule. Don't worry about that.
3) This option is only applicable if she declared that she was in Canada, and they issued the eCOPR. It is one thing to leave after getting COPR and using the US border to return, but it is another thing to declare that you were in Canada but was not to receive the COPR. Immigration officers may question this at the port of entry. When you tell IRCC that you are outside of Canada they either pause until you return or forward your application to the closes embassy in your home country to finalize the process. The embassy option may lengthen the process way beyond 1 month.

So the answer to question 1 is your best option. If COPR is issued before she leaves in August, then you can try the US border option.

Thank you for the clear answer. Very much appreciated
