I am sponsoring my wife. Is it necessary to submit her birth certificate with the application?

Thanks.

Not knowing what country your spouse is from, and not knowing if you are applying in Canada or outside of Canada, I cannot tell you which guide in particular to review; however, you really need to read the guide well, in particular, paying special attention to the checklist provided for the application you will be submitting. In most cases you do not provide the actual Birth Certificate, but a notarized copy of it - in English or French, if it is not in either of those languages originally.

Please see this link to see the guide you need:http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/index.asp

-Thanks for your reply. My spouse is from Bangladesh. I am in Canada, and the application will be outland. In the checklist under Identity and civil status documentation it states that, submit birth certificate to proof relationship of your family members. I guess this is applicable when the spouse has other family members in the application for immigration purpose. However, in my case I am only sponsoring my wife and her parents or other family members are not applying for immigration.

- In the second point on the checklist, it also says if you are married, submit a copy of marriage certificate.

My question is, do I need to submit both birth certificate and marriage certificate or marriage certificate only?

Thanks.

For sponsoring person for Bangladesh it says

IDENTITY AND CIVIL STATUS DOCUMENTS (Principal Applicant - your spouse)
• Provide birth certificates, baptismal certificates or other official document confirming relationship (including all pages of Household Registries) for you and each of your family members.
• If you are married, you must include a marriage certificate. If you are divorced, you must include final divorce certificates; if separated, a separation certificate. If your former spouse or commonlaw partner is deceased, you must include your spouse’s or partner’s death certificate.
• Further clarification regarding the above-mentioned documents is given below for nationals of Pakistan, Korea and Taiwan.
• Photocopy of Citizenship Certificate, Permanent Resident Card, Permanent Resident Visa or Immigrant Visa for family members who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
• If you are in a common-law or conjugal relationship, provide proof of that relationship

So yes birth certificate and marriage certificate are required
