I started my M.Sc. in Canada in January 2014. I got PhD offer letter in June, 2016. I applied for spouse's TRV along with my study permit extension during that time. Scenario during previous TRV application:

1. I was having my study permit.
2. She was an undergrad student studying in 3rd year.
3. Liquid asset shown in both my and father-in-law's account. (Bank statements and affidavit)
4. Fixed asset shown in father-in-law's name. (Affidavit and CA report)

Refusal reasons:

1. Travel history (She has no history of travelling outside country of birth).
2. Family tie in Canada and country of residence.

Current scenario:

1. I have finished M.Sc. and rejected PhD offer letter. I am currently working in a NOC A (Design Engineer II) level job.
2. She is an undergrad student studying in 4th year.
3. I can show similar amount of liquid and fixed assets.
4. No travel history for her yet.

My questions are:

1. Should I apply for her SOWP or TRV?
2. If SOWP, how can I explain her current situation as a student?
3. What should I put as an explanation for her travel history?

1. Apply for SOWP- you have better chance as opposed to TRV since you already have a rejection
2. You can explain that she is still studying and that she will come and join you upon completion of her studies. Explain about her studies and everything clearly
3. Don't put anything as they don't need any explanation from your end. Just mention in the SOWP application about TRV rejection- there will be section which will ask if you were ever denied entry to canada; there you mention about the rejection and mention the reason.

Good luck.

If you have NOC A job and PGWP then,

1) in my opinion its safe to go with SOWP.

2) You just need to type the informations about her past 10 years personal history(what she was doing and where) details in the form. Other than that you don't have to explain anything else.

3) Am not sure what to say here.

Note : For SOWP, we have to show marriage certificates , photos of marriage ceremony, call/chat history and your job details as proof of funds.

In my last application, I showed marriage certificate only. No photos or chat history.

Most of refused applications have "Travel history" as common reason of rejection. Apparently, it is a big issue that needs to be explained.

I know tis is the big concern as most of the TRV rejections carry same reaons, for my wife we had same reasons for rejection of TRV.

Do one thing, include her name on Tenant's agreement for your apartment and also in your explanation letter mention " The address and also highlight that you will be taking care of her financially and everything else" More than this you can't show any other ties. I did same.

Hi all. I am from Bangladesh residing in Canada now.

I applied for my wife on the 1st of April 2017.

She just gave her biometrics after 3 days of application.

The following documents I provided for her:

1. Passport
2. Birth Certificate
3. Visas showing she travelled to Malaysia and she also got a visitor visa from Bangladesh.
4. Letter from her university stating her education standing and when she expects to graduate.
5. Marriage certificate (1 page)
6. One marriage picture

The following documents that were mine:

1. PGWP
2. Passport
3. 3 recent pay stubs
4. Offer Letter from CIBC (NOC B)
5. Employee verification letter
6. Last 2 years NOA
7. One letter from the bank stating my balances as of April 1st.

I do not expect them to reply me right away but I hope all these documents were sufficient. Here is to praying and hoping. This is all we can do as of this moment.

If you have questions or comments let me know please.

Cheers

Sabab

Sorry correction

She got a visitor visa for India but she hasn't gone there yet.

So she has two visa stamps in her passport now.
