Hey everyone, Great thread!

I have gone through the most of the discussion and I am really leaning towards applying for my wife's SOWP. We are also considering student visa. Here is a quick background:

  • Came to Canada on student visa in 2014 and got OWP in 2016
  • My wife applied for Work permit when I was a student followed by two TRV, all of which were rejected
  • All applications were made from Doha as she was an expat there. She is now in India and we will be submitting the applications for there.
  • WP application got rejcet because it too 8 months to process and by that time by study visa ahd almost expired. TRV rejceted and with common reasons like everyone else.

I was originally in Toronto, but moved to Ottawa. I work full time with a software company. Since my status has changed and I am working fulltime we are considering to apply for SOWP, but want to make sure if that it is a better option than Student Visa.

What you guys think we should do?

FOR THOSE WHO NEED HELP IN FILING SPOUSE OPEN WORK PERMIT

Hi everyone,
I already posted on SOWP stating the correct and easiest way to file an application. Writing again for those who joined late.

I have seen so many of you guys are struggling to find correct information regarding the application of your spouse work permit (For full time international students) but not getting the correct information,
Let me help you out with that.
I am a full time international student in Canada, came here in Sep. 2016 intake. I applied for my spouse in Oct 2016 for SOWP and got her visa in less than 20 days only. She joined me here in early Nov. 2016. Cool

There are certain mistakes most applicants are making while filling this visa, resulting in refusal of their application. I will try to cover all these mistakes and also will help you with correct process and documentation (according to my knowledge and experience).
Common mistakes made by us are:
1. Over whelming the application by attaching unnecessary documents.
2. Providing unsatisfactory explanation in Cover letter.
3. Weak demonstration of ties in home country.
4. Improper documentation.
5. Improper formatting and poor writing.

Coming to next section, what should we do to avoid these mistakes and file a proper visa application.

Although documents vary by application to application, but some of the docs are same and can be listed as:
For Applicant: MOST IMPORTANT : COVER LETTER, and
1. Passport
2. Medical (if applying on pre medical basis, however you can apply on post medical basis)
3. Highest degree of education.
4. Marriage pictures
5. Employment experience letters (if any)
6. Funds in Savings (only have to show if your spouse took any Loan while applying for study visa)

For Spouse (Already in Canada on Student visa)
1. Visa must be valid for at least 6 months from date of application.
2. College ID, Offer Letter from college, Study Permit, Student Visa, Passport
3. Savings if doing any part time job.

These are the only documents mainly required to file this visa. However, some more docs may be needed depending on case to case basic.

If you still have any doubt, or need help in filing visa, feel free to shoot me a mail on heplseeker@yahoo.com

All the best for your visa applications.

I applied for my husband -spouse work permit on January 16, 2017.
Today, he got a passport request.
I do nt understand why they need passport as he already has Canada visitor visa?
Is this happens with others also? They need passport for spouse work permit ?

Hi Dipica,
Congratulations! for getting the SOWP.

Did you get any status updates on your application before the approval/passport request or you just directly got it?
Just asking out of curiosity as many of us are desperately waiting for updates on our application.
Thanks in advance.

Hi All,
i have the status as follows showing below in the "image" , Any experts can tell me what are status they uses for "Application Status" as i heard saying some people that they are having the status as an "Open" but in my case its still shows "we received your application. . . ." however my medical is passed , does it means that they didn't even started with my file ?? ::)

Second Question : - Once the Final Decision status changes to "Approved" then how i will get to know that which VFS office i need to give my passport for stamping? ???

FLk, Seniors? Any thoughts? With three rejections already (including initial WP), we are really confused whether we should apply for student visa or SOWP. I am working full time under NOC A category (Technical Writer), due to previous rejections I am still not sure wheter SOWP or student would be better.

Also, if student visa is better option for my wife to come to Canada, can she apply for SWOP once she is here? I guess it does make sense, and looks like I am answering my own questions. So confused and indecisive!
