I can understand that but the weird thing is after answering all the questions online to create an online profile, CIC don't give the option to upload these documents and they reject saying we didn't provide these offers!! I feel this is a flaw in their system. I have seen many online cases got rejected because of lack of these documents.

Anyways, thanks for your advance and I am thinking to do a paper based application this time.. phew!! ???
I can feel the pain. But i have seen people being able to get it done fine with online application. Either you might have answered something incorrectly OR just use the existing forms to submit the additional info needed.

I know for sure that they don't provide enough fields to upload docs and don't separately ask for each document. However, your case is a bit more off - so i suspect you might have incorrectly answered as well.

Any way all the best. I would still suggest trying online app - for many reasons. Paper app has another world of its issues, starting with having to submit all originals and risking CIC can actually loose them (this has happened with some people and CIC bears no responsibility).

Also paper application can be deemed incomplete by them for some missing piece and it might just lay there with dust for a couple months till you ask again and find out it is being returned being incomplete. This has happened to me TWICE and the criteria for being incomplete was not my fault. I followed their instructions on website by the book. But there were corner cases.

Just so you know the pros and cons of both.

Hi
I am doing my Ph.d in Canada. Me and my spouse applied together for the study permit and his open work permit. We did an online application. We applied on 13th Nov,2014. My application was approved on 18th Dec, 2014 but my spouse application is still open. Its almost 2 and a half months now. Does anyone know what they are doing with my spouse's application and how much more time will they take for the processing?

Regards

Candy

Thanks for your advice! I don't suspect problem in my questionnaires because I checked multiple times and read many applicants uploading same set of docs. I think only missing documents is the root cause. However, I will come to know the reason once they sent the reason (if they do any).

Hi Candy1,

When you say we applied together, i assume you mean it was a single online application where one was principal applicant and the other was dependent spouse and it was clear from the profile.

If that's the case then i admit it is a surprise to me. I have never seen this happening. I always have learned that when you apply together as a family you case is treated together and updated together. Either all are approved or none is. Personally when i applied several years ago, it was application for 5 (me, spouse and 3 kids). One of our applications was held for a few more months (one child needed further medicals). So we didn't have ANY update on any of the files UNTIL his was done.

Finally all approvals came together.

I suspect that you might have applied with different accounts. If that's not the case i have no idea.

Thanks fkl for your reply. Well I am also not sure what they are doing with his application as we have not got any update on his application yet. We applied from a single account stating that a family member will be accompanying me but they have not processed his application. It's still open. My another question to you is that is it possible to withdraw his application for open work permit and apply for study permit as he is also been accepted to do his phd at the same university as mine. If it's possible to withdraw the application, then what is the procedure and is it easy? Another question is that if his work permit application gets refused, will that affect his application for study permit?
Fkl please reply

You are most welcome Candy. I don't know a lot of details but this should be helpful

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=741&t=23

If he gets a refusal, all you need to do is compare the grounds for refusal. If those are addressed in the study permit application he should be fine. But CIC would consider the same grounds again they refused the first time. Say if first time they don't see say a solid "purpose of temp stay" and he got admission into same Phd, that should be fine with the second application.

Didn't you say earlier that you both applied together on Nov. 13th. Or was it that you applied earlier on 13th, and he applied latter on 19th?

As far as i know, two months is not a lot for a CIC office in India. But you can submit a case specific inquiry either by sending email to the visa office OR by using the case specific inquiry form available on their website.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp/workers.asp

The above says average processing times are 2 or 3 months across delhi and chandrigarh. Usually they advise to only submit case specific inquiry if average processing time for application has passed already.

Hi Kumar,

Assuming you have a skilled job (NOC 0, A or B) since only those are eligible for SOWP, you can start the process here

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/work.asp

Online application in general is better. Keep in mind that it is your spouse who applies, and the application will be processed at the embassy in her current country of residence (probably the same as yours). Just that your Work permit and job would make her eligible for SOWP.

The process is exactly the same as that of closed work permit. You would only choose work permit type as "Open", and in details of employer in Canada, you would write "Not applicable" while also attaching your own docs along.

Hi Fkl;

I am new to this forum. I need some expert advise regarding filing sowp. I am on post graduate work permit status in canada and my spouse is working in USA on work visa. I have a NOC B category since last june which I quit in nov and went for break for two months and now again I am joining new company with same job profile from Feb. I have few quick questions regarding filing SOWP.
1. What is the detailed checklist of documents required for filing SOWP.
2. Do i have to show information (like pay stub, job profile) from both of my employers previous and current.
3. Would my 2 months layoff affect the Sowp.
4. Should i file SOWP asa i recieve my two paychecks from the new job.
5. Do we require PCC for filing SOWP. My spouse already has canadian visitor visa since last 3 years.
6. Does my spouse has to show funds and if yes how much and does she has to provide any letter of intent regarding current job profile.
7. Do i have to provide any letter of intent regarding my job profile and what amount of funds do i need to show.
8. Apart from marriage certificate and some photographs do we need to show any other document justifying our marriage.
Experts kindly give your inputs. Thank you in advance!!

Oh so your spouse probably got a resident trv and now you are looking for OWP for her. Sure she can apply online in Canada and it would be processed by CIC in Canada which shouldn't take more than 30 days or so. Rest is same
