**Sorry, I firstly posted on foreign worker section, but no response. I apologize if this topic is not relevant.****

I am holding a PGWP and applied CEC in Oct 2014. My wife is now visiting with visitor visa. I want to apply for a SOWP for her so she can stay the same duration as I have. Topics here regarding my situation are most outland applications. Just wondering if everything is the same for applying inland? Do you know what's the processing time if applying online? Does she have to do a medical exam in this case if everything goes well?

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks,

Apply through online. now it will take 40 days. Create MyCIC account for your wife and follow the questions. They will suggest the required documents and just apply.
If she had not done medicals while coming to here, they will ask for medicals. There are two ways for medicals. You can get medicals and submit the receipt along with your application.
After getting work permit also u can go for medicals. With out medicals also they will issue the work permit and they will give 6-months duration for medical submission.

Thanks adabala. Because my wife is pregnant, so she cannot do any medicals in recent time. If they require a 6-month submission, that should be fine. By the way, I found many applicants applied SOWP but got refusal. So I am a bit worried that should I apply for SOWP or remain her status as visitor. The main reason for SOWP is to get provincial medical care for her pregnancy follow up.

Any suggestions?

Once again, thank you for your reply.

She has to apply by her self online. She has to create an account and send an application for temporary work permit. As I remember there is an option to say that you are on PGWP and she is your spouse.
She doesn't need to do medicals for this kind of application. At least it was like that in our case.

You have to provide a letter of employment for her so she can upload it to the application. If she gets WP which will take of course at least a month, she will not get medical coverage for another 3 months. She can apply for it as soon as she gets WP but it will be valid 3 moths later. So till that time you will have to pay for all medical care from your pocket.

Thanks MONKUCHA, in terms of "letter of employment" you mentioned, is it my employment letter? not hers? She doesn't have a job yet. I understand that medical insurance won't be valid until 3 months after WP is issued. However maternity and emergency-related are exceptions. She will be covered immediately for these cost, that I have verified with the province.

How long did it take you to get SOWP? around 40 days?

Thanks again.

Yes, you have to provide a letter from your current employer as well as copy of PGWP.
My case was different as I was an international graduate and my husband applied for WP and it was 2 years ago so the processing time has probably changed sincethat time. But as I check on the website it is about 36 days if you apply online.

My wife applied for SOWP, she recieved it in 2 weeks even though in the website they mentioned as 36 days.

Wow, this is promising. Did your wife apply recently?

For SOWP, your employment status is very important to support your wife application. In my case I have submitted my work permit (very important), most recent pay slips (two), work contract forms. If you have previous T4 forms and NOC, you can submit. We got work permit recently with out medical. But we have to submit medicals with in six months. So no need to worry about medicals first. DON't remain her status as visitor, medicals are so costly. Just apply as early as possible.

Regarding province medical insurance, you can apply for this now. They provide service after 3-months from landing date, if she has work permit or not. In this case also they will give some time to submit her work permit. Please contact them for more details regarding this.

We started online application. is the form IMM5710E correct? Also. It only asked for marriage certificate, passport and digital photos. Where should I upload my employment info (PGWP, employment letter. etc)

Thanks,

She applied around mid September online.
Hi, did you provide some proof to show spouse will leave when intended duration expired? e.g. ties in the home country? or this doesn't matter?

Happy holidays guys!

Double check the website.
I filled my wife's sowp application and there is an area to upload your work permit.
For employer lette, salary slips ,cover letter and all that i just made a singe file and then uploaded in explaination letter. Although i am still waiting for it to be approved. applied on dec 29, 2014
