Yes, COA from IOM is just a FREE seminar provided by CIC. Yong galing po sa CFO na GCP or PDOS ang mandatory for pre departure immigration check.
Ito po yong text ng IOM sa akin:

The Canadian Orientation Abroad (COA) seminar is not mandatory; however it is provided free of charge by the Canadian Government and offers valuable information about settlement for newcomers to Canada. All immigrants and caregivers bound to Canada are strongly encouraged to avail the free orientation seminar. COA schedule for IMMIGRANTS- FEB 11, 2015 (WED) or FEB 16, 2015 (MON) 8AM, and for CAREGIVERS - FEB 17, 2015 (TUE) 8AM. To register, please text your complete name, embassy file number, date of seminar & e-mail address. Also, let us know if CAN VISA has been issued or not. Then, wait for confirmation. Thank you ang dami kong natutunan d2, at kahit pano sana nakatulong rin yong shared experiences ko.

My flight is on Friday na next week: Feb.13, I got my visa last Jan.30

Medical certificate nalang kulang ko because I am pregnant which I will get on Wednesday next week Feb.11 kc good for 7 days lang upon issuance ang medical certificate and form from PAL.

May email rin ako na receive from CIC about the COA from IOM kaya I texted them kaso tagal sumagot kaya tinawagan ko nalang landline phone ng office nila and yon nga I was told Hindi mandatory pero maganda daw yon na seminar sabi ng mga nka attend, kaso wala nko time to attend sa available schedule nila, sa Feb.11 kc prenatal check up ko rin. Very informative daw talga yong seminar.

My wife and I just got married a week ago. I'm going back to Canada this Sunday. We need your help on how will I start the sponsorship for her.
Medyo nacoconfuse pa rin ako on what will be the very first step to do and what are the needed requirements to start the application.

Question: Can my wife do the medical exam kahit di pako nag-aapply to be a sponsor? What are the requirements needed for her medical?

I received an email from CEM, they're asking me this following dox:

1.)fully completed Appendix A - ask ko lang pati ba parents at kapatid ko mag fifill up ??

2.) Completed IMM5540 bearing your sponsor's signature and must be dated - anong ibig sabihin mag fifill up ng bago si hubby ? dapat ba dated ngaun?

nagpa sked ako kanina...ang reply ng IOM, March 5 is the next available slot. Hindi ko na rin yun mkukuha because i have to land not later than feb 25.

I would like to know what happens in this case too if the available slot is after the date to land.

The other thing I would like to know is my wife is out of the Philippines right now, if she were to leave to come to Canada with out getting CFO etc. since its not required to leave where she is currently. What complications could she have in the future if any?
