Yes sa lawyer sa Canada sya magpapa notarize. Yung lawyer din ang mag prepare nung statement for him. So bigay nyo lang yung facts sa lawyer and he/she will just write them down and notarize the paperwork after. It is smart to attach his income tax papers that says that he has been separated from the common law as well.
I think for sure kailangang mag pa medical din ang anak mo kahit hindi mo sya kasama papunta dito. Other than that I am not really sure. Make sure to read this: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3905e.pdf

Processing time, it's really hard to say kasi unpredictable ang CEM, it depends sa VO.
But normal processing time is online:
Step 1: Sponsor Assessment. 35 days, they are currently working on Applications received on December 18, 2013.
Step 2: By Visa Office. CEM - 14 months
