Hello,

If I am a PR and been staying in Canada for some time. If my wife is eligible for express entry -FSW, can she apply independent of me for her PR under express entry or is it mandatory to go through spousal sponsorship?

Thanks for the reply..

I am wondering if I did take the spousal sponsorship route, does my wife also need to undergo English language credential test?

If one is eligible to sponsor their spouse under family class, that is usually a much quicker and easier path to PR status.

But there is no rule, either way is acceptable.

EE-FSW will take 6 months and family class takes more than a year right ? Am I missing something here?

She needs to be selected first to apply for EE, write english exam, etc etc. 6 months processing target is from after being selected and after submitting all required documents.

Family class application target is 12 months from initial submission, but are often done much quicker depending on what country applicant is from.

Most people aren't getting through in 6 months for EE. 8-10 seems to be more typical these days. Plus there's all of the up front work and waiting as others have described above. If she hasn't completed the IELTS test yet - then best case scenario you're probably looking at 10 months end to end (that's best case - and assumes no delays and that her points are 450+).

Oh I see. That clears it.

Is there a tracker for spousal sponsorship applications like we have for express entry?

By the way me and my wife are both from India. What is the usual/general processing time for spousal sponsorship application ?
Check the New Delhi thread.
