Hello,

Me and my husband are planning to apply for a PR in Canada. I have given the IELTS exam and scored 7 bands - listening - 7.5, reading - 7.5, writing 7, speaking 6. I am 28 years old, a post graduate in Mass Communication with 5 years of work experience in India. I wanted to ask you the following.

1. Is it mandatory for my husband to appear for IELTS? If yes, how much should he score?
2. Is it mandatory for my husband to get his education verified through WES? Although he is a graduate in Commerce, his degree is not recognized by the UGC, but is recognized by the Central Act 1918. Will this be acceptable in Canada?
3. I have applied to WES for getting my education credentials validated. When can I start the PR process?

Thanks,
Shilpa

Hi
1) It is not mandatory. If he appears for IELTS and scores CLB 9 in all 4 categories, you can get additional 24 points.
2) It is not mandatory. WES evaluation helps in adding points. Ex: Graduate gets 8 points if it is equivalent to Canadian graduate. You can try evaluating it with WES and see what they say.
3) Once you get WES evaluation, you have to add the WES reference number in your EE profile to get points for your education.

Please refer this for details on points: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/grid-crs.asp

First make sure you are eligible under either FSW or CEC category and then start your process i.e. applying for provinces etc...

1. Is it mandatory for my husband to appear for IELTS? If yes, how much should he score? Not mandatory. You can get an additional maximum 20 points if he writes IELTS and scores above CLB 9. So your call if you need the points.
2. Is it mandatory for my husband to get his education verified through WES? Although he is a graduate in Commerce, his degree is not recognized by the UGC, but is recognized by the Central Act 1918. Will this be acceptable in Canada? Likewise as above. Not mandatory. Try the WES free assessment tool and see if it is worthwhile to spend money on his WES.
3. I have applied to WES for getting my education credentials validated. When can I start the PR process? You can create an Express Entry profile once you have received your WES assessment and IELTS scores.

Thanks,
Shilpa

Yes, both of you need to apply for WES and both degrees will be evaluated separately.
