Hello Everyone,

I submitted my application last July. It was marked received on the tracking number on July 12. It's been 2 months and I still didn't receive any acknowledgement from CIC. Is this normal? Please advice. I'm very anxious if they received my application or not.

Normal right now as they are working on March applicants.

Hi Everyone - I do and don't know where to begin. I filled out the application for a spousal sponsorship while abroad (I live in Mexico. I am Canadian, my hubs is Mexican) 2 years ago and then pressed pause, and have just completed it again. Here is where I am stuck. 1. We don't know exactly where we would like to live, this would depend on where my husband finds work. 2. My husband has a daughter in Norway and her mother is uncooperative in providing us with a copy of her birth certificate 3. We are uncertain of the timeline. Once we receive the "OK" you can come to Canada now ... how long do we have to actually touch down in the country? 4. Is the wait time 1+ years right now? 5. If my husband is called in for an interview, is this in Mexico, or Canada? Thanks you all so much. I hope to be able to pay it forward.
I would try to obtain just daughter's birth certificate from the appropriate authorities be or agency. In Norway... If she was born in Norway...it is here

3. Two different times that matter: the visa/confirmation of permanent residence has [some date], where [some date] is typically one year after medical examination. Pre-covid, you had to "land" (arrive and get processed) prior to that date. (Let's leave aside covid treatment for now, i.e. situation may change for better or worse).

Once the applicant "lands", they are a PR. Going forward, they must reside in Canada a minimum of two in five years, rolling basis - the residency obligation. In practice, this means you have some time flexibility to fully establish yourselves in Canada.

This is generous but note that many PRs who do intend to remain or return within some short-ish period of time often have trouble doing so and end up in violation of the residency obligation. Many complications ensue. Health care and other benefits can be a separate issue. Don't assume you'll be able to just "arrive and settle later" and have everything go smoothly.

Impossible to estimate processing time now, count on a year; this may be a minimum right now, but will depend on what happens with covid etc.

Interview would be in Mexico but not all applications have interviews; possibly a minority. (If you've been married and living together longer, less likelihood)

Hi All, I am a PR holder and got married 2 years ago, due to some personal reasons I had to stay back in India. Also, we had a baby so she'll be the dependent.
My question is whether I have to be in Canada to Sponsor my spouse and kid? Or Can I apply from India so that we can travel together.

Although I don't have answers to all of your questions, our situation wasn't too different from yours. I'm a Canadian citizen and my wife is a US citizen, we have 3 children and have been married 7 years. We were living in the US and a job in Montreal fell into my lap and we decided to take it and move up here. The plan your lawyer suggested is the same one that we took.

As soon as I accepted the position (late-October 2019) I applied for citizenship certificates for our children (online), choosing the option and writing an explanatory letter with the application that we intended to move to Canada by January 2020 and the children would need the certificate for health cards, school, etc. We received their certificates by mid-December. One thing that might help: you do NOT need a Canadian passport to travel into Canada for a child as long as you have their citizenship certificate and a US passport. The child would come in as a citizen and not with a passport stamp or other visa.

We applied outland in December (see my signature for timeline) and I came in January to get a house ready and then flew back in February to get my family and fly back with them. Upon arrival in Canada we explained it exactly as you wrote it: I took a job here, we've applied for PR, however we recognize that my wife is a visitor and will return to the US in the event her status expires at any time. They checked over the childrens' citizenship certificates and then gave my wife a visitor stamp for 6 months. There was really no issue or questions - the border agent said that a US citizen applying for PR as a spouse is more a formality than anything else. In retrospect I wish I had asked if we could get a visitor record for, say, a year, for her to avoid having to apply for the extension. She applied for a visitor extension in June because the stamp expired in August, but we haven't heard anything back on that yet. We're still waiting for the PR process to move forward as well, COVID-19 and the special Quebec process having slowed it all down.

I provided documents about my intent to move to Canada but it was more concrete for me. That being said you just have to prove your intent to move and it sounds like you can do that. I showed evidence of the accepted job offer, quotes from moving companies, etc. Notwithstanding where you finally settle, I think the forms just ask if you plan to live in Quebec or elsewhere in Canada, and another question about where you plan to live. I think you could enter anything here so long as it is at least one of your plans. I'd suggest perhaps near family, or a large city with the jobs, etc.

Best of luck with the application and the move when you make it.
MANY thanks! This was very helpful!

Short note on this, the process is slightly different if Quebec is indicated as intended province. So do be clear if you intend to live in quebec.

Apart from that, doesn't make much difference. There's more detail but it's likely enough for now.
Thanks! Yes, we definitely are NOT planning on living in Quebec at the moment.

Hit reply to quickly and can't figure out how to edit. One quick question - you are able to ask for a 1 year visitor visa when you enter Canada as a US citizen? I am inferring that from you mentioning wishing you had asked for that. Also, has she had to leave the country while waiting for the visitor extension/the PR to come through?
Thanks!

And good

sponsor approval and file be transferred to the visa office for the applicant's processing.
I checked the online tool and saw “Decision made” under sponsership application and under principal applicant” in process”.
Does that my sponsor eligibility is approved?
