hi, it's no problem at all if you visit your wife in canada while your outland application is processing. it's usually best to travel with a refundable return ticket, because even though you are applying for PR, you still don't have permission to "move to" or "live in" canada until approved. you will also not want to travel with all your worldly posessions - just the amount of things someone would normally bring when visiting.

I believe UK is currently taking 8-10 months for outland approval. it of course depends on which visa office your application will be processing at.

note, outland applicants are not eligible for the spousal sponsorship OWP. that is specific to inland applications and it is generally issued in about 4 months after submitting the application. It's usually not recommended to apply inland for most people because even though IRCC has a 12 month initiative for all spousal applications, Inland is still going through a backlog and people are still waiting a long time for approval. Also, you'll have to stay in canada and not go on extended trips outside of canada for the duration of your application , which can be tough for most people to do.
Cheers and thanks for replying!

So what would you advise me to do? I am planning on applying for the spousal visa outland and then go to Canada to apply for the Open Work Permit as soon as I've landed in order to receive it within 4 months time?

Many thanks for your help!

For faster processing and freedom of travel during the processing time, outland would be better.
After applying Outland application for the spouse can she enter Canada as a Visitor given that she has a valid visa.

Hi -

I have some questions filling the Checklist. Would really appreciate any help.

My Details: Sponsoring my wife. I am a PR. We don't have a Child.

For Part B, Question 2: Are you(the sponsor) a Canadian citizen living outside Canada?
Do i check the box next to the question? Do i check(answer) the question in Yes/No or leave it blank

For Part B, Question 3: Do you(the sponsor) and the person you are sponsoring have a child together who may have a claim to Canadian Citizenship?
Do i check the box next to the question? Do i check(answer) the question in Yes/No or leave it blank

For Question 3: ACCOMPANYING CHILDREN's ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Do i answer the question in Yes/No

I searched around and got mixed responses, some people suggested to check the box next to the question and answer the questions. Some suggested to leave this blank.

Would really appreciate if you could help me understand this

3: absolutely not
am still a bit confused. Because it states that I will be able to sponsor my family members at a later date. Is my mother father and sister considered a family members.

I will not be to sponsor them at a later date if I don't provide birth certificate.

Hi Bcboundboy

Thank you for your reply, I'm still trying to make sense of everything 100%.

So if I apply outland now and then enter the country as a visitor, could I then apply for an open work permit inland or is this generally not possible due to the application being outland? I've also checked the cic website and it says that you can apply for both at the same time, so would both be possible from outland?
No.

If you are physically located outside of Canada when you apply, you MUST apply outland. Applying outland means you cannot apply for a work permit (because you are not in Canada, so don't need a Canadian work permit). If you later visit Canada while you wait, you still cannot get a work permit, because you filed outland.

If you are physically located inside Canada when you apply, you can choose if you wish to be processed inland or outland. Outland processing is normally quicker (the logic of this is that outland applications need to reunite them with family in Canada, inland applications they're already there so don't need it). Inland processing means you can get a work permit while you wait (because you're in Canada, so you need to be able to support yourself in Canada). If you choose outland when you are in Canada, you cannot get a work permit (even thought you are in Canada) because you applied outland.

You've been given the definition of a family member where documents are required at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5289ETOC.asp#family.

Mother, father, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins etc are not included in this.

Thanks again, I think it's making sense to me now. Originally, we were thinking of submitting the application outland as we're currently still living together in the UK until next week, so it would have made sense to be able to provide documents about joint rental agreements, bills etc. However given that only applying from inland will get me an open work permit, I think that's the way to go forward.

Thanks for you assistance and please don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers

As stated in the guide, they are not family members for the purposes of this application, so that exclusion doesn't apply to them.

You are a PR living in Canada right? I think for question 2 the answer should be no since 1) You're a PR and 2) You're in Canada
The last 2 questions should be checked "no"

Thanks for your reply. Yes i am a PR living in Canada
The answer "No" is obvious, but i was wondering if i need to check the box next to the question as the questions are not applicable.

Hey guys, I would like to ask does anybody know is it possible to travel after landing without PR card? I read that some people travel without card and then when PR card arrives on home address, somebody send card via post or bring it in person?

You can't travel without the PR card. I remember one of my friend had to go and he filled some form with the Embassy and they gave him a temporary permit and he was able to travel and get in without the PR. The permit takes time to come to you.

I know that I can leave Canada without PR card, and the only problem is getting back. However while I am out of Canada, I expect to receive PR card on my address in Canada , and my question is about if somebody has similar experience and how safe is it to send it over the post or somebody bringing it to me in my country?
