Hi guys,

Does anyone know if Army/Military service(nothing serious/dangerous involved) can extend the background check?

Thanks!

Not required, but it's a good idea to include that, as it shows you have familial support.

Hi,

I am a permanent resident of Canada and I am taking my oath for Citizenship in January 2017 and I am also sponsoring my wife (Indian citizen) under spousal category (family class).

So the question is:-

I have the application ready to submit already with new December 2016 application forms. Under the new application, you do not need to provide Police clearance certificate and Medical Report upfront.

Now, when she went to get Police clearance certificate they told her to put the spouse name (my name) on her passport, which I believe they will give her a new passport. That's what she's been told. So, her passport information will change all together.

Should I submit the application right now and update them with the new passport information after. If yes, then would I need to submit a document VIA mail or VIA my online application attached portal to Canada.gc.ca website account? or should I wait.

Please share your knowledgeable insights.

I have a quick question regarding inland sponsorship. Me and my husband would like to go this route, he's an American citizen and we are planning to have home come here as a visitor and apply inland with the open work permit, and after reading this, the extended visitor visa thing. Thanks for this advice :)

I just had a request for any advice about when he does cross the border. Will they have issues if he says he's coming here to start sponsorship?

it is usually recommended for US applicants to apply "outside of canada". He can still be in canada as a visitor while his application is processing. Currently, us outland applicants are being approved in 5-6 months. There is no reason to apply inland just so you can get an open work permit in 4 months when you can be totally approved as a PR in 6 mo. or less. The "processing time" suggested on the website for US applicants is not an average and does not reflect what current US citizens face in real time.

I'd highly highly highly recommend reconsidering and applying outland. there's no reason not to.

here's the US applicant thread. you can see an august applicant just received Decision Made.

be aware that this all supposedly has changed drastically in the announcements made by government last month, there is supposed to be no difference now between inland and outland processing times from what I have been reading, need someone here that is more up to date on this to confirm as I am not an expert

Yea, no way to know for a few months, once the new app applicants start getting their DM's. I think though, that the process will be about the same for outland, I think the difference will be inland is faster (used to be over 2 years) and the back logged visa offices will have apps redistributed to lessen workload. Just speculation from what I've read though, I haven't really looked into it.

Hi,

I did not pay my RPRF upfront. My husband's medical expired and he was asked to complete a new one before his interview. It did not arrive at KVO until after his interview. He was told that if the medical had arrived before the interview, he would have received it on the spot. His passport was taken at the appointment and they requested an air waybill to send it back. I'm just wondering when they would request the RPRF.

Thanks.

hi,

Do you check mark the Q 6 MEDICAL EXAMINATION checkbox for PRINCIPAL APLICANT in the Checklist(IMM5533) ? Since they ask you to submit the Medical examination later, so shall we tick that checkbox?

Also, do we check mark Q2 and Q3 for SPONSOR even if the answer is NO in those cases?

Thanks :)

For anyone that's already landed (by plane):

Are you able to go with your sponsored spouse as they go through the landing process/procedures (presenting COPR, declared goods form, etc.) with the officers or do they have to go to that area on their own?
