1) You should apply for PR using the outland method rather than inland. Outland is much faster for Americans (although it doesn't come with an Open Work Permit). If you apply inland, you'll have around 11 months to wait before you will have access to an OWP. If you apply outland, the entire process will likely be finished for you before you hit the 11 month mark.

2) I can't answer that question.

3) Again, I would forget about applying inland and apply outland. Every American on these forums who applies inland seems to eventually regret this move deeply.

4) My husband is 16 years older than I am (I'm the Canadian who sponsored him and he's American as well). Your age gap shouldn't be an issue provided you can show your relationship is genuine (it wasn't an issue in our application). Call out your age gap in the write up explaining your relationship and then explain all the ways in which you are similar that make this age gap irrelevant.

I have a few questions about the permanent residency process. My wife and I are close to finishing putting our package together and I would like to check a few things. My first concern is my part the sponsor. I have a letter from my mother saying that we are welcome to stay with my parents when we go to Canada and that they will supply food, gas, car etc. Is that enought proof of intent to return or what else could I get? It's not reasonable to rent a place there until we know about the visa. Also I can't get a job offer as I have been away for 6 years. Is there anything else or is the letter from my mother enough? Also as I have been living and working outside of Canada and considered a non-resident, I have not paid income tax. Do I need a letter or tax receipt from where I am working here in Mexico? Also on the form I need to fill out to get the medical exam done it asks for the processing office. Do we put Mississauga or Mexico City?

As scylla said, apply for PR OUTLAND. You could have full PR and SIN in around 8 months or so.

2) I've seen conditional status being applied to relationships less than two years. As ours is longer, but we have only pictures, letters from friends and family, and screenshots of text messages with no dates on them to back our story-will that be enough to avoid conditional status?
No. You must be married or common-law for 2 years to avoid conditional PR status.

But seeing as you should be living with your spouse anyways after getting PR, there should be no concern if you have conditional PR or not.

Keep in mind also you must be officially common-law or married before you can apply for PR.

Not sure about proving intent to return as I never had to do this.

Yes you should get income info from your current country/job.

For outland app you would put Mexico as processing office.

You could get other family members write letters saying they know about your plans to bring your wife to canada and that they support your decision. You could get a letter from your current employer in Mexico saying that they've been informed of your decision to move to Canada within the next year. Also if you rent property in Mexico you could get a similar letter from your landlord. Not that you'll be giving either your job or your landlord your official notice yet, but that they know of your plans could show that you're serious.

Not sure about the Mexico tax thing. There's no minimum income requirements for spousal sponsorship but they do want to know how you're going to support yourself and your spouse when you get to canada. You yourself could write a letter explaining this. I know it's unrealistic to apply for a job now but maybe if you have a lot of experience in a particular industry or a degree and you're really confident about being able to get a job in your field when you get to Canada you could outline that in a letter, maybe even give a copy of your resume or something.

All applications for stage 1 Outland are processed at the same office in Mississauga, so if they are asking you to name your visa office they would be wanting the Mexico City one.

Hi guys, how is everyone here, i hoe you and your families are good. I know this question has been answered here before. But i wanted to ask you guys in my own case. Heres our case:

My wife received her passport request from Canadian Embassy in Manila this past Friday (only took us 4 months of waiting Smiley Grin)). She has sent passport along with photos and Appendix A form to embassy as of this past Monday June 30th, 2014. How long will it take to get passport with visa back, some folks saying 2 weeks some saying a month. In my case i am Canadian Citizen from Toronto, in the case of Canada or Toronto in particular. Can anyone let me know, thank you so much and God Bless.

Sincerely Alex from Toronto Smiley

Manila requests the passport at the start of the process (rather than at the end when they are ready to issue the visa). It's one of the few visa offices that does this (ND is another visa office that requests the passport early). If you were with a different visa office, I would say you could be expecting the PR visa soon. However since you're with Manila, I would expect you still have several months to wait.

Thank you for your reply lots of folks told me that it should be few weeks only, doesn't make sense sending passport and then wait another few months, but i know some embassies love to take their time or other factors that will play the role. Thank you so much, maybe some other folks can share their ideas on how long it takes after you send in the passport, please guys share your ideas. Thank you so much

You should ask your question in the Manila thread:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spouse-family-class-timeline-manila-visa-office-philippines-t40680.52665.html

The Manila thread has different processes than other visa offices. So you really need to ask this question of other people who are going through the same visa office as you are.

Hello,
I am a Canadian citizen living in Quebec. I met my fiance about a year ago and we are getting married on July 15th.
I had two questions regarding her becoming a permanent resident.
first of all she is here as a student and has a study permit, so if we apply inland for her PR application, can't she leave Canada for vacations? Since she already has a study permit visa on her passport.
Second she has requested for police clearance from the Iranian embassy in the US and they have told her that it would take them 3 to 6 months to send her the police clearance. So in order to expedite the application process can we send the documents without the police clearance and provide them with the clearance after we receive it?

Thanks
