One more Silly Question, (and thanks for all the help!)

So We're submitting the sponsorship application this weekend, so I know I'd be under implied status until the application is approved/denied. My Visitor Visa expires May 2025 -would there be a point to renew it? I was thinking of paying to renew it early because if I can get a visitor visa that shows that it expires in MORE than 6 months now- I can get my BC license. If I don't, they will provide me a non photo paper licence since my visa expires in less than 6 months.

I don't have OWP and The wait times right now are 120 days. Any suggestions if I should just wait for the AOR and apply for an OWP or if I should attempt to renew my VisitorVisa once more time?

If you've made any mistakes (or even if IRCC makes a mistake) and your application is returned, then you will be out of status and ineligible for the OWP (although you could apply for renewal of status). So my view is that it does make sense to apply for extension.

When you apply for the extension you should make it clear that you've already submitted the spousal app (they do sometimes refuse those who've extended already - but my understanding is renew almost automatically for those with a pending spousal app).

Luckily I definitely haven't had any issues with reapplying for my extensions which has been such a lifesaver. It seems that's the safest route. Getting that BC License would be a HUGE help as well.

Every once in a while it comes up here, that someone's been in Canada for a while and done [x] extensions with no problem, and then all of a sudden they get a refusal (months later of course meaning already out of status).

And usually the circumstances are they've been planning to submit the spousal app and haven't got around to it.

just a correction, you are not under implied status with the sponsorship application
it's your responsibility to maintain your legal temporary status until you get your eCOPR which confirm your PR status

Submitting the sponsorship application does NOT give you implied status. You won't have implied status until you submit the OWP application after you get AOR. Apply to extend your visitor status.

Hello all!

I'm a PR here in Canada, applying for my wife's outland spousal sponsorship. I'm moving to a new address in March and I'll be notifying IRCC of my address change after I complete my move-in. I'll be giving them my Rental Agreement as proof of address. However, I have one question: I've preemptively listed my wife as a legal occupant (not a tenant) in the lease and I've verbally notified my landlord that she will not be moving in until later in the year. Is that going to be a problem if her name is listed as an occupant on the lease? Can I explain to IRCC that I've preemptively added her as an occupant in anticipation that she will hopefully be joining me later in the year?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

you don't have to provide any proof, just give them your new address

Not an issue, not worth mentioning.

Hi everyone,

My husband and I got married inside Canada but we live in different provinces. He lives in Montreal and he is on a close work visa which means he is unable to change an employer at the moment. I am a teacher in Ontario, recently became permanent staff and reconsidering my work location isn't ideal for the time being. However my spouse will be having more opportunities and options in Ontario. I want to sponsor him but I keep hearing about mutual address and bank accounts. We can prove mutual bank accounts but a mutual address? Is proof of same address crucial for our situation if we can prove that for anything else (besides the address), we truly want to reunite and finally start our marriage life together? Thank you for your time!

It's actually not a problem - remember, people sponsor their spouses who live abroad all the time, so it's not required to live together. Just a bit different that you're in different cities in Canada.

Suggest you start with downloading the application packages and start looking through. (Most is now filled out online but you can download the forms and understand what is needed). Start by reading through the checklist (which is a form itself).

https://www.ircc.canada.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp

There are different 'classes' to choose, you should choose the 'family class' with spouse-in-Canada. (NOT the spousal class living in Canada class - that would require you to be living together). (I'd like someone else to confirm where exactly this is selected, I am not positive which part this is selected in on form or online).

You dont' have to be living together - just at some point explain why you live apart for time being. You will have to show that it's a genuine relationship, i.e. time you spent together is critical. (If you ever did live together that's great).

Others may wish to add.

Note also at some point in process your spouse will be eligible to get an open work permit; it may take a while but would make it possible for them to move closer earlier.

Hello Guys,
I am permanent resident of Canada and applied for spousal sponsorship application on March 1st, 2024. Its has been almost 1 year since I applied but no luck yet. I contacted IRCC, Local MP office, but same answer that application is in process. I applied through immigration consultant even she is not responding calls now. My timeline is stated below:

Applied - March 1st, 2024
Application received- March 13th, 2024
Biometric Request - April 15, 2024
Medical Request - April 17, 2024
Sponsor Approval - April 16, 2024
Medical/ Biometric Completed - May 06, 2024
Eligibility Completed - June 12, 2024
Pre Arrival Letter (1st) - June 13, 2024
More Infor Required on application - June 18, 2024
Resume requested was submitted - June 25, 2024
Info Received by IRCC - July 02, 2024
Background Verification Started - Jul 02, 2024
Pre Arrival Letter (2nd) - August 07, 2024

After August no update, file is stuck in background verification. Contacted every single person, I could. So my question is following:

1) Should i apply for visitor for my spouse so that she can at least visit me? or it is risky game with current immigration prospects?

2) Medical would be expired April, 2025, once it is expired do i need to submit medical again?

1) You can apply. The visitor visa application should not affect the PR application.
2) IRCC could extend her medical (specially for younger applicants i.e. non-PGP and if not from a country common with contagious diseases like TB). Or they may request a re-medical.
Suggestion is to wait for the request.
