Did she do the x-ray as part of the medical exam? If the doctor was aware she was pregnant, then they are not supposed to do the x-ray as it can be harmful.

But just being pregnant has no bearing at all on the application. CIC will only care if the baby is actually born while application is still processing.

Hi everyone. I have some more questions about getting a multiple entry visa and permanent residency for my girlfriend/soon to be wife. My girlfriend is Mexican and I am Canadian. We live together in Mexico right now. We want to go to Canada for a vacation and also want to apply for her residency. I am not sure how to apply for the multiple entry. Can I as a Canadian citizen invite her to go to Canada although I am not living there or does one of my relatives/friends living in Canada have to invite the both of us to go there? Also regarding the residency. I know that I can sponsor her even though I don't live in Canada if we can prove that we'll go to Canada when she gets the residency. How can I prove that in the best way? It's hard to get a job offer but I have family and friends that are willing to have us stay with them. Is that enough? If so do they need to write letters inviting us to stay with them or should the letters be written to Canadian immigration stating their willingness to have us stay with them? Thanks to all for the help and any advice.

Has he had a removal interview? If not, an Inland application is the best bet because the public policy is the defer enforcement of removal orders while an inland application is pending. If he does leave, at this point it will take several years for him to obtain Outland most likely (because he would need an ARC and that can take 6+ months on top of Outland processing times).

You really should consult with an experienced immigration attorney - your case is definitely not a simple one.

Keep in mind that if you buy a car in the US, before you can import it and get it insured in Canada, it must first have modifications done to meet Canadian safety standards (since some differ from US). One example is running headlights. Also be aware that depending on the brand of car, things like warranty claims, recalls, etc the Canadian dealerships may refuse since the car is US, and they can tell you do go back to US to get these things done (every car dealership is a bit different with this).
Thanks for the comments Rob. Yes, I was aware of the daytime running headlights requirement. I saw on CBSA website yesterday that I'd have to pay $204.75 to have an inspection done along with a $100 levy for having a/c. Also I'd have to pay duty and GST on the current USD/CAD exchange rate, which happens to be 6% higher than when I bought the vehicle. Total expense to import would be around $1.3k. Then there was this gem: "If you arrive at a CBSA office and your vehicle does not meet the requirements of both the CBSA and Transport Canada, you must either export or destroy your vehicle under the CBSA's supervision. You are responsible for all the related costs. In such circumstances, duty and GST may not be refunded." So I could pay the $1.3k, then be turned back anyway at the whim of gov't agents and then lose what I paid. I’m not willing to roll the dice for that much money.
I'd like to see a boldly colored banner at the top of CBSA's page about importing vehicles with a label like this: we are going to make it so damned difficult, expensive and uncertain for you to import your vehicle there's a high likelihood you never will. We do not want your car here. Lol

US applicants should ALWAYS get the medical done up-front, and submit it with the application. US apps are processed in CPP-Ottawa, and many take in the 10 month range or sometimes less to finish. Not doing the medical up-front, means CIC needs to request it later which can add a delay to your processing if they put your file on hold.
Yup, I see the importance of what you're saying.

It depend on your situation. Some people have sent a letter from friends or relatives saying that the couple can stay with them while they look for a place. I suppose if you had an agreement in principal from a landlord, that would be good. You mostly just have to prove to them that you've been looking and are serious and hope they believe you. I don't think there's any way you want to just rent a place that you won't be in.
Thanks again BeShoo for your advice. :) Unfortunately my family will be about 1,500 km away from where we want to live. I looked for rental finders in our chosen city of 80,000 population but there don't seem to be any. Right now I think I'll just tell them my plan to get out of the US as soon as my wife's PR is granted and hope they accept it.

Police checks can take up to around 90 days from the FBI. I'm not sure what the current processing time is. If you don't want to wait, you could send a letter explaining that you've applied for it and it hasn't come yet. Lots of people have done that, but they'd rather have it with your application and it has to be less than 3 months old when they receive it in Mississauga to be acceptable. If you don't send it in, they may refuse to process your application because it is "incomplete."
On the FBI website there's a list of "FBI-Approved Channelers." I found 1 in this area who claims they can get you your criminal history in 5-7 business days after they receive your fingerprints that can be taken by local police. I'll go that route just so I have it sooner.

You are supposed to do the medical before you send the application. I think if you don't, they will send you a letter asking for it, then put your application in a pile of ones that are waiting for more information. According to some here, they may just put it in a pile with a re-check date of 3 months later, at which time they will look to see if the missing info has been provided. This delay can be prevented if you send it upfront. However, the processing can take up to 1 month for sponsorship approval, then 15 months for the applicant part (seldom longer). Your medical must be less than one year old at the time when you actually "land" as a permanent resident. If it's too old, they will ask for a new one, though they now have the discretion to extend the validity for up to a year if you're close. The cost of all medicals was about $250 here in Ottawa. I've read on this board that most that are done in the U.S. tend to be significantly more expensive than in Canada. You might have to shop around, but there are less approved physicians to choose from in the States.
Thanks, I’ll get the medical exam done before we apply. There are 3 doctors total in California, closest one is 2.5 hour drive 1 way. Yep, I got quoted $250 for it in Canada. Here it costs $445US, which is $507C for me to pay. That’s about par for the course. My American wife seriously miscalculated the cost of living here. Since we moved here I tracked all expenses and it’s twice as much for us here as it was in Alberta. That’s also with no health care insurance premiums to pay. If I chose the most basic healthcare plan under Obamacare, it would cost us $221US/month. That would entitle us to 3 free doctor visits/year and not much else. The deductible is $6,350/person, meaning you have to spend that much before the insurance starts to co-pay 60% for lab tests, emergency room visits, ambulance rides, doctor visits. If I chose the very best plan, it would cost us $2,207US/month. No deductible but you still have to co-pay 10% for everything. That’s about $29,000C/year for less coverage than I had in Alberta for NOTHING!!! I just didn’t realize how stinking rich I was there! Lol
I discovered I came here with a profound lack of imagination regarding what things cost here. 1 prescription I need to function is 7 to 11 times as much as it cost me in Canada. I never would’ve dreamt that in my wildest nightmares. The doctors charge $306US/hr with a minimum of $80 for you to walk into the exam room. I spent over $700 for 1 health issue on lab tests and doctor visits. 8 weeks later I still have the same problem. Can’t wait to get back to Canada for the insanity to stop!!!!!

Yes, you can apply. If you can convince the visa office that you have very strong reasons not to overstay, you may be successful.

That may or may not work. CIC is looking for an original from the FBI on FBI letterhead. Watch out for warnings that the report from the channeler is "not authenticated." Even if they are "FBI-approved" that doesn't necessarily mean their reports are acceptable to CIC. See the discussion here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t121968.0.html Most people have found that their channeler-provided reports are not accepted by CIC. There is not problem with saying you'll send it later, though sometimes stray pieces of paper sent later have trouble being matched up with the proper application.

Is your husband a Philippines citizen? From what I remember, there's a fairly low approval rate for Filipinos applying for Visitor Visas in this circumstance. You are better finding a message thread with lots of Filipinos and asking their advice on that. Try this one: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spouse-family-class-timeline-manila-visa-office-philippines-t40680.0.html

Unfortunately, I think this is only a matter for divorce court. Here is a long discussion of a similar situation, which won't make you feel better, but at least it's some information:
"Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are in a marriage of convenience for immigration reasons may be charged with a crime." So, it seems like it could technically be a crime, but I think in your situation it reverts to nothing more than a civil matter. It's too bad that you didn't file under the new rules. I almost wonder if your wife knew that deadline was coming up.
Here is CIC's page "How to report marriage fraud":You could call them and see what they say.

Hi BeShoo: Thank you so much. Your links, hopefully, will help me. I work 60-70 hours a week, and it is very hard to spend time behind ALL this to save my life. Now I have to choose between life and money. We need money to survive. I have so much loans that I cant even leave one of the jobs either !! Anyway, I will spend time to understand the whole situation how to handle it. Thank you once again.

BeShoo, thanks again for your timely advice and the thread you included. You and others here have already saved us a lot of frustration. I'll do the FBI option in order to avoid any delays. :)
