Your spouse needs to meet the citizenship residency requirement independently in order to apply for citizenship. They can't benefit from your status in any way at all. They need to live in Canada for 3 out of 5 years before they will qualify and be able to apply for citizenship.Thanks. Could you please elaborate more.
@legalfalcon any info related to this? What are some of the seasons for lengthy spouse sponsorship processing time other than COVID delays or denial, even if the marriage is legit? If you can share your experience that would be great.
VO specific workload, for paper-based applications - shortage of staff, and in general delays with IRCC.@legalfalcon any info related to this?
Thanks , I actually mean any reasons related to our application or conditions. Like some people are saying age gap is an issue , or educational background between two partners can be issue etc.VO specific workload, for paper-based applications - shortage of staff, and in general delays with IRCC.

Correct me wrong, even if the marriage is legally valid, they will try to check whether the relationship is legit right or whether it's a contract marriage. Following are my major concerns that I am afraid of whether it flags negative. But you said "even if the marriage is legit?"
The age gap and other factors are mostly reasons to doubt that the relationship is legit. Or did you mean something specifically about the marriage as distinct from the relationship?
Okay, sorry, I think there was a misunderstanding - you wrote 'even if the marriage is legit', and I (and others probably) read that as whether the relationship is 'legit.'Correct me wrong, even if the marriage is legally valid, they will try to check whether the relationship is legit right or whether it's a contract marriage. 1. I'm planning to marry soon after my PR confirmation (in 2-3 weeks) and apply fo spouse PR
2. It's an arranged marriage so no lengthy relationship timelines
3. Not sure how long I can stay with my wife after marriage as I wanna come back Caanada soon. may be 1 month
Thanks for the response. I'm asking this because now I'm in a good position to make changes to the marriage date and all to ensure my spouse's sponsorship is smooth. If you can specifically state a major negative on my condition please mention it.Okay, sorry, I think there was a misunderstanding - you wrote 'even if the marriage is legit', and I (and others probably) read that as whether the relationship is 'legit.'
Put differently, the marriage being 'legally valid' is a very different question from whether it is 'legit.' So let's just simplify and say whether the relationship is 'legit.'
Yes, the marriage being valid under law is actually a pretty low bar (most legal marriages recognized with exceptions of plural marriages, proxy marriages, and some more infrequent country-specific issues).
Yes, the individual aspects of your arranged marriage mentioned make it harder to assess whether it's a legit relationship / marriage, and in that sense are 'flags.' None will individually mean it will get refused, depends on rest of file.
I look forward to hearing from others - don't consider myself an expert in arranged marriages. I understand that living up to the 'expected' cultural norms of the marriage, engagement, etc, ceremony, presence of others can be important (which of course varies some). [To some degree can be compensated by other aspects but mostly - don't cut corners]Thanks for the response. - Engagement held on Sept 2020. Have valid photos, (with relatives and family)
- Went a couple of trips together (got pics and hotel booking), and family parties
- Possible marriage in October 2021 (1-3 weeks after my PR). Legal docs, and photos avaialble
- Stays with my wife for 1 month (approx.) before I leave for Canada, and apply for sponsorship
- one of our major concerns is the chat history, as our major communication was through WhatsApp, and we lost the history after the phone change

As a general rule - the more time physically together and evidence of communication, the better. The chat history a bit of an issue - and while not an expert, wouldn't it be retained unless both of you changed your phones? (Is that plausible?)
Again though - I was originally missing the point of your question, best to hear from those with direct experience in the area of concern.
Thanks , I actually mean any reasons related to our application or conditions. Like some people are saying age gap is an issue , or educational background between two partners can be issue etc.
You select the parts of the chat you wish to select. And no, it seems it's not awkward for them ).The first 8th months of the chat are only lost since the engagement. Moreover, isn't it awkward for them to ask for chat data. It's a very personal thing right, especially among couples.
If you'll be travelling as a sponsored spouse under the immediate family exemption - eg as spouse of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident - you may and likely will be asked to show it.Hello everyone! I didn't know where to put this question so forgive me if it doesn't belong here. My husband got his passport request and we are now just waiting for it's return and then we will be ready to travel! However I read other posts about people having some trouble with the airlines and at the border. I read about one woman needing to provide the sponsors birth certificate? And translated marriage licence? Is this true? Would it be prudent of me to have a translated marriage licence when we travel? I assumed that the fact he had copr and visa in passport was enough to travel. Thanks for any insight you can give.
