Spousal sponsorship while having OWP

Hello, my spouse is a Canadian citizen and at the same time I am eligible to apply for an open work permit directly because of my citizenship. We are considering different options to start our new page in Canada. We prefer to go to Canada as soon as we are ready and do not want to wait for the decision of the sponsorship.

I wonder if it is possible for us to apply for outland sponsorship after my open work permit is approved (but before we go to Canada)? It would be good if I can go to Canada with my spouse and I can work while waiting for the sponsorship to process.

Alternatively, I think this is likely to be fine but I would like to make sure it is possible as well - that is after I got my open work permit, we travel to Canada and apply for inland sponsorship. Is this okay as well? Will there be issues with dual intent?

Thank you so much in advance!

I believe either approach should work. If you trvel to Canada with an open work permit, strongly doubt they would even ask about your spouse/intent, because hey - you're already approved to work.

How have you qualified for the OWP! IEC? Do you meet the requirements for the country and some countries IEC spots are very competitive.

there should not be any issues about dual intent. I am not sure what happens in the case where couple travels together.
I travelled alone and came here on CWP. That's it. No question about intent etc.
Immigration agent didn't ask me anything. Just asked for documents and gave work permit in return.

It's actually not anymore. It was pre-COVID but that seems to have changed (at least temporarily). Even the UK has tons of spots available. This used to be the hardest country from which to secure a spot.

Not IEC. I am from one of the two territories that you can find on the IRCC website. They have special immigration measures for us.
