Hello i am a Canadian citizen wanting to sponsor my husband who is in Canada as temporary visa. I came across a question about social assistance. So before i got married to my husband i was dating a guy from 2015-2019 where the guy i was dating had to apply for social assistance as he was unemployed but at that time they said if we applied as common law we would get more money so we did that. So every month i had to report my pay slips to the welfare in order for them to give us the money. I have never personally applied for social assistance but at that time my ex bf did as a common law. So here are my few questions where i am confused.
So in the ircc forms there are questions like have you ever been on social assistance? Should i say yes or no
Have you been in common law relationship mention his name and stuff? Which i am going to disclose the information because i dont want to lie on any forms.
but here is the issue so in 2019 i broke up with the guy on bad terms. And i did my taxes for past 7 years in 2020 from h&r block and i wasnt thinking about social assistance and stuff at that time and i filed all my taxes as single because i was single at that time. And h&r block never asked me cuz they just pulled my work documents and filed it.
so my question is if i mention i was in common law will ircc say why didnt you file your taxes as common law?
