Spousal sponsorship- relationship genuine

I'm wondering if there is anybody in my situation and able to prove the marriage and relationship is genuine.

I met my husband online over chat forum. It was like love at first sight for us (very compatible). We are not young ( he is 41 and I am 40). Because of our age we did not feel we need a long time to make our decision. We want to start a family asap.
After 4 mths of knowing each others, I booked the flight to meet him and his family for 2 weeks. Everything went well so we planned our wedding. I went back again second time within 3 months and got married.
My problem here is I'm not wealthy and neither he. I can't affort to go oversea every year (each trip cost me almost 5k for 2 weeks). I want to save money so when my husband get here I can support him.
We still keep in touch via phone calls and text chat everyday.
I'm just wondering if I am not able to visit my husband, would it be a disadvantage for me to prove my relationship is genuine? Will my app get rejected?
I can get a personal loan to visit my husband, but I don't want to get into debt because of this. Any alternative? Help

Hi! So it sounds like you met and were married within 7 months? I am assuming you are in Canada and you would be sponsoring him via Outland application?

While this short time period might raise some red flags, you can help negate these by providing lots of quality backup materials when you submit your applications. Keep in mind that as of right now the maximum limit of materials to help prove your relationship is genuine is 20 pieces, so choose these carefully. Do not go over, as Immigration will request more if they feel they need it (more is not better). Items you may to include are:
  • Photos from your visits of the two of you in different settings
  • Photos from your wedding day
  • Photos of you with his family, or him with your family
  • Photocopies of greeting cards or other correspondence you've sent each other
  • Letters from family and/or close friends stating that they know your relationship is genuine
  • Screenshots of chat/text conversations over time; does not have to be private subject matter, just multiple messages over the months to show that you have been in constant contact with one another
I would definitely not suggest stretching yourself financially to visit each other just to show IRCC that you are together. As you said, save the money for your life together and the PR process, as it is not cheap.

Good luck--I also met my husband on social media, and while our relationship didn't move quite as quickly as yours, I can understand what you mean. We were 43 & 40 when we married, so I know about not wanting to wait to spend the rest of your life with the right person!

Thanks for the detail response!
Yes I did my best sending them 10 pages of prove of contact via messenger (it was hard to condemn 308 days in 10 pages) and 20 pictures.
We did not have wedding ceremony due to Covid-19 (married in March). We only have pictures at the city hall signing the marriage certificate and family dinner ( only husband's aprents and sibblings able to attend only). All my relatives are in Canada.
I don't know how we can get letters from family and friends? I only sent the Facebook face with comments from our friends and relatives congrat us. No wedding invitation was sent out. Plus we want to keep this relationship low key until we can be together. Our plan is to have an official church wedding once he get theresince we both are Catholic (oops I did not mention this plan on the app)
This whole long distance relationship is quite a journey for us. We never thought of having to prove our relationship to anyone, even with our parents. We are just falling in love as normal. The only thing that not normal is we are so far apart. But going through this sponsorship we sound very much like we are staging a relationship. Not sure if anyone feel the same way.

I am sending $100/mth to my husband. I also put him as my beneficiary on all my assets. (I sent all these with my app). Hope this help proof of our financial connection.

Did you already send in your application? Sounds like you have a lot of it covered!

Keep the faith and remember that the whole process takes time, and even more so now during the pandemic, which has slowed everything down by months and months. Good Luck!

Don't be too worried, right now during Covid, nobody can be expected to visit anybody - so that's our excuse if we cant visit for any personal reason...
I think I hold the record for quickest marriage on this forum - 2 weeks chatting on internet dating site, on third week I flew over for 3 months and got married during that time.
I only had 1 extra page in my application (needed extra space for her family members), 10 wedding photos, 3 pages of Viber chat samples and couple of Western union receipts I sent over. Love at first site is something very special.
I sent my wife around $5000 over the last winter because of Covid crisis and they don't have CERB or any social support system in her country.

Thank you for sharing your story @Phalos.

First time doing sponsorship and no help from friends are relatives (they are lucky to find their partner next to them).
No one warns me of the sponsorship process and I was not expecting long distance relationship either. (I was just online chatting for fun to past time)
Now I am in it, I can tell this is tough. I feel like going back to 16 yrs old. I have to ask for my parents approval and have to explain and proof that we do love each others..and make sure you get a good job and have enough money before deciding to live together.
I applaud to those that can keep the long distance relationship strong for over 2 years in waiting. Please enlighten me so I have the hope to go through this lengthy process. (Please do not advice me to go and see him, not even after Covid-19. This option is not the affordable in my situation)

My advice would not to take sponsorship lightly. If your spouse leaves you within 3 years of landing in Canada, you will be on the hook for any social assistance he/she will receive if they apply for it. This can accumulate to thousands of dollars.
This becomes an issue when you've known your spouse for a short time. Love can really blind a person and you see the other person through rose colored sunglasses )))) So you really need to take them off...haha.

Really depends on your assets and potential income. It is a good idea if there is a big imbalance.

Would really try to visit at least once during the sponsorship process although covid may give you a good excuse not to visit. It sounds like you may have only spent 4 weeks in person together which is not a lot.

Didn't you read the poster said it is not affordable in their situation?

Yes, total 4 weeks seeing face to face. I understand I don't have strong case to proof genuine of the relationship. That's why I am worry that it will get rejected and I might have to hire a lawyer to appeal (money, money)
Yah if I have to take more trips to prove the relationship (after Covid-19 of course), then I guess I have to do what needed. Although I wish I could save 5k here and 5k there on vacation trips and use that to downpayment for a small house. I already spent over 10k in my last two trips. This relationship is getting expensive
I guess cheap phone calls everyday are not good enough.

No, we both are working class, earning just enough for living.
I meant can I get him sign prenuptial so he won't leave me before 3 years term is up so he won't screwed me with social assistance? Just kidding....we both know we are in this forever. However, the separation and the waiting to get approve ...and uncertainty of our future is getting on my nerve. (It is the girl thing..my spouse is cool with whole process though)
I want to pack and move there to live with him, but my family wouldn't let me do this. They risked their lives to bring the family out of communist country and find freedom here. And now I risk everything I have and move back to the communist country. My parents will die from heart attack :)

hey have some qn how did you print out your photoes did you use a photo paper or just printed on normal paper, and does any one have any idea i will be getting married soon and to get a marriage license might take time so will have to send in an extension
Qn.
1. purpose of visit? Should i say Applying for spousal sponsership or waiting for marriage certificate. Because the space is limited i cant write waiting for marriage license to apply for spousal sponsership.
2.The extension checklist asks for marriage certificate which clearly i wont have so what should i attach.
Thank you
